Roger Penske Pays Record Sum For Lamborghini Aventador In The Name Of Charity

Motorsport icon and businessman Roger Penske has paid the highest sum ever for a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster, after placing the winning bid on one at a recent charity auction benefiting the Naples Children and Education Foundation. Penske’s winning bid was an impressive $900,000, which is roughly double the asking price for one the stunning roadsters.

But this was no ordinary Aventador Roadster; it was one of the limited editionAventador LP 720-4 Roadster 50° Anniversario models that Lamborghini announced last year as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.

As its name suggests, the Anniversario model’s 6.5-liter V-12 has been uprated to 720 metric horsepower (710 regular horsepower) from the standard model’s 700 metric horsepower (691 horsepower), and drive is still sent to all four wheels. Only 100 examples are being built in total–50 coupes and 50 roadsters.

The auction, which was held last month at the Naples Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, was organized by local Lamborghini dealership Lamborghini Sarasota. This was the dealership’s first year assisting the Naples Children and Education Foundation and we’re sure there will be many more to come.
