Seeking Some Sonata? Here’s the Next-Gen Model, Spied Uncovered

Less than two months after one of our editors came across a camouflaged 2015 Hyundai Sonata in a local parking lot, The Korean Car Blog has given us an unfettered view of the new mid-size sedan. Allegedly, the photo embedded above was snapped in a South Korean production facility, and the Sonata depicted therein matches a teaser photo Hyundai recently released.

While we assume that this is a Korean-market Sonata—and that ours will get slight tweaks, as has been the case in the past—it appears as though this is the 2015 model’s full monty. Style-wise, the front end is more squared-off than before, featuring a blunter snout and more angular fascia detailing. TKCB didn’t include any photos of the car’s rear, but from what we can see, it looks like an evolution of today’s car. We like the fast roofline, which looks even zestier than the swoopy greenhouse atop the current Sonata.

The 2015 Sonata is scheduled to officially debut later this month ahead of the New York auto show, when we expect to get more (official) photos and full background information. We can tell you the sedan rides on a modified version of the current platform, and while the optional 2.0-liter turbo four should carry over, a smaller-displacement turbo could take over base-engine duty from today’s 2.4-liter four.
