Watch: F1?s New Rules Explained in Three Minutes

The 2014 Formula 1 season promises to be the most exciting in years, with new rules, new cars, new engines, new restrictions, new drivers–new everything, it seems. Everyone’s got an opinion and everyone’s got questions, not the least of which is will Red Bull continue the dominance it has shown during four consecutive seasons?

We can’t answer that question, but we can help with a lot of the others to get you up to speed before the season opens at Albert Park circuit in Melbourne. It will be the first true display of the truckload of new regulations intended to increase safety and fuel efficiency–and, with luck, the racing. It’s all rather complicated, as things in F1 so often are, so we’ll leave it to the marketing department at Red Bull Racing to break it down with this big-budget video.

Qualifying Melbourne begins Saturday at 5 p.m. in Melbourne (2 a.m. on the East Coast). The racing begins at 5 p.m. Sunday down under, 2 a.m. on the East Coast.
