It’s not the first time an actor has passed away before a film has been shot. But Paul Walker’s death was taken very badly by a number of fans, and as the heart and soul of the franchise, it seemed the future was bleak.
However, now it has been revealed that his brothers will step in to finish off the scenes necessary to put the movie together. Cody Walker seems to be doing the majority, but it’s unclear exactly what they’ll be doing.
In fairness, it would be silly to consider Fast and Furious & not going ahead. It’s a multi-million dollar franchise, and would have wasted a lot of resources. Besides, fans everywhere know Paul himself would have wanted to see the franchise finished suitably.
Paul’s character, Brian O’Connor, has also been reported to be written out via retirement, as opposed to being killed off, as other reports had suggested. Killing a character in a car-based movie where the actor died in a car crash in reality, could have been seen as a little morbid, and perhaps too close to home for some to consider.
The question still remains; do his brothers look similar enough to warrant this treatment? As it’s reported they’re going to be body doubles, it could be safe enough if no close-up face shots are needed. And a fully-CGI version of Paul Walker may also be quite eerie. Let’s hope they pull it off, and manage to finish the story-line of the character in style.
