Photoshop wizard renders new second-generation Audi R8 supercar.
With test mules already lapping the Nurburgring, it’s only a matter of time until we see the second-generation Audi R8 supercar. Though we may be getting an early glimpse at the new mid-engine R8 curtsey of Photoshop wizard Marco Van Overbeeke who recently released images of what he thinks the next Audi supercar will look like.
Using recent spy images as a point of reference, Marco has come up with a rather tasty-looking rendition of the new second-gen R8. The new model is expected to adopt sharper lines than the existing model with a squarer appearance similar to that of the recently launched third-gen TT sports car.
As shown in these render images, the new R8 is also expected to ditch the iconic side blades that made the original design so unique and appealing. Instead, the second-gen model is tipped to feature more conventional side intakes, though a contrasting blade may still feature.
At the rear things are once again tipped to become a lot sharper with bolder surfacing combined with squarer lines. The current car’s big circular exhaust tips are also expected to be replaced by the square items fitted to current prototype R8s.
In terms of mechanicals the new R8 will once again be based on the baby Lamborghini supercar. This time its platform is shared with the new Huracan rather than the old Gallardo, which means a carbon fibre and aluminum chassis and all-wheel drive. The V8 and V10 naturally aspirated engines are expected to carry over from the current R8 range, though not without a power boost. The new R8 V8 should at least be quicker than the recently revealed RS3 hatch which can crack 62mph in 4.3 seconds, while the V10 will be in the low three second range.
