Chevrolet has teased the soon to be revealed 2016 Chevrolet Camaro muscle car, releasing a video giving us our first taste of its V8 engine.
Chevrolet has confirmed its new 2016 Camaro will be revealed on May 16 with the first teaser video released. The video doesn’t show or reveal much but does give us our first listen to the new m0del’s bellowing V8 engine.
The motor in question is most likely the same 6.2-litre LT1 unit from the C7 Corvette developing around 450hp, and the video confirms a manual transmission will be offered. Whether it’s the same seven-speed stick-shift as the Corvette or the six-speeder from the current generation Camaro is anyone’s guess.
Other engine options in the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will likely include a V6, while a four-cylinder turbo model to rival the mustang Ecoboost is unlikely. The 7.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 from the current Z28 model won’t be used, as it’s unlikely to meet emission and fuel consumption regulations. Though the Corvette ZO6’s 620hp supercharged V8 may feature in the future in a ZL1 or Z28 model.
The design of the new-generation 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will be an evolution of the current muscle car, with a long bonnet, rear-set cabin and narrow letter-box style glass. Indoors, the Camaro will likely feature a retro-style cabin like the current model, but with better quality materials.
This latest Camaro may also be offered in right-hand-drive for the U.K, Australian and Asian markets like the new gene ration Mustang – fingers crossed.
