This is what it’s like to drive a new supercharged 2015 Hennessey Mustang with 750hp and standard brakes and suspension on track.

When building a fast car, especially one you intend to use at the race track or drive somewhat aggressively on the road there are a few things you need. The car needs to be able to grip, stop, turn and go – and yes those things are listed in order of importance. It doesn’t matter if you drive a McLaren or a Mazda, chances are you’ll set a quicker lap time by simply adding stickier tyres rather than upping power.

But what happens when you take a new 2015 Ford Mustang – the most sophisticated generation ever with its new independent rear end and almost double the power without any other modifications? You get this rather frightening Hennessey Mustang with the tuner’s HPE750 package delivering 750hp through a supercharger upgrade.

The 2015 Hennessey Mustang below is bone stock apart from the blower under the bonnet, so it’s running fairly tame road-based tyres and brakes that weren’t really intended for track use let alone continuously hauling up a couple of tonnes worth of Mustang from 130mph. And then there’s the suspension which is also yet to be modified. Fortunately the owner of this tyre-torturing Hennessey Mustang is planning on upgrading all the chassis components that can’t handle the new 750hp heart so this beast should soon be tamed.
