The 2016 Mercedes C63 AMG Cabriolet Spotted!

Merc’s answer to the BMW M4 Convertible is seen on the road for the first time in spy shots, ahead of a launch expected in late-2016.

The solid-roofed Mercedes-AMG C63 coupe hasn’t even hit showrooms yet, but already we’re seeing the first spy images of the droptop version out and about. It’s expected to launch towards the end of next year, just after the regular C-Class cabrio.

While not every carmaker sees fit to make a wafty four-seat convertible and shoehorn a massive engine under the bonnet, the engineers at AMG have practically made a habit of it. The new C63 (in S form) gets a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 which pumps out 503bhp and a fullsome 700Nm of torque.

That’s 78bhp and 150Nm more than it’s nearest rival, the BMW M4 Convertible, all put down through the rear wheels. It’s likely that the C63 will weigh a bit more however, so expect a 0-62mph time fractionally slower than the 3.9 seconds quoted for the standard coupe. There should also be a lesser-powered non-S car available at launch.

Despite this test mule’s disguise, it’s clear to see the folding fabric roof underneath the camouflage, thanks to the smaller rear window and notable bulges. Tell-tale AMG styling clues include chunky air intakes, large alloy wheels, quad exhausts and upgraded brakes.
