Caged Fighter: Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Revealed at LA 2015

The Porsche Cayman GT4 is the fastest, angriest, most hardcore Cayman there’s ever been. Until now.
.This is the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, a track-only twin to the road car revealed to the world at the 2015 LA motor show.

First things first, the GT4 Clubsport is not road-legal (more’s the pity). It’s been created purely as a racing car, available to teams and private buyers alike and eligible for various different race series around the world.

The engine’s the same as the road car: the howling 3.8-litre flat-six that’s just been retired from the 991 Carrera S. Power output’s unchanged, at 380bhp. Although the purist-friendly GT4 road car is available with a manual gearbox only, it’s the opposite story for the Clubsport. In the race car, where shift-speed is king and a missed gear can mean missing a race win, it’s paddleshift PDK all the way. The Clubsport also gets a different, race-spec mechanical locking differential.

Chucking away most of the interior and swapping the seats for a solitary racing bucket and harnesses has shaved a few kilos, while welding in a rollcage has put a few back on. All in the Clubsport weighs 1300kg, around 40kg less than the road car.

Just as the GT4 road car’s front axle is borrowed from the 911 GT3, the Clubsport uses the front suspension from the 911 GT3 Cup one-make racer. Brakes are 380mm steel discs all round, with six pistons at the front, four at the rear and 12 stages of adjustment for the ABS. The stability control system’s been reprogrammed with a setting for slick tyres.

I want one! How much?

Send €111,000 (plus VAT), or £77,000, in an envelope to Porsche Motorsport in Weissach. For context, you’d pay £64,451 for a Cayman GT4 road car. (Assuming you can hold of one – the UK’s initial allocation is sold out).
