Cop Arrests Firefighter Who Was Saving Lives After A Car Accident (VIDEO)

A California highway patrol officer arrested a firefighter who was rescuing car crash victims last night because he refused to move his truck.

According to CBS-8, both men had responded to an accident in which a sedan had flipped over a concrete divider. Jacob Gregoir, a firefighter for over a decade, arrived at the scene and parked his firetruck behind the ambulance to protect the first responders from oncoming traffic on the I-805.

The Chula Vista fire chief confirmed with CBS-8 that Gregoir was simply following protocol when he parked his truck in the highway’s left lane.

The cop, however, was trying to clear the fast lane and asked the responding firefighters to move their trucks.Gregoir was checking the overturned car for additional victims when the unnamed officer told him he would arrest him if he didn’t move the truck. The firefighter said he’d have to check with his captain before breaking protocol.

The cop then proceeded to handcuff Gregoire and put him in the back of a squad car as CBS news cameras filmed the whole thing.

“To detain one of our firefighters in the middle of an incident is ridiculous,” Chula Vista Fire Chief Dave Hanneman told CBS-8.

Gregoire was in the squad car for a half hour before supervisors from both departments arrived to release him without charges.

This was a wise move by the highway patrol considering a police officer was fined $18,000 in 2008 for arresting a firefighter who also refused to move his truck during a rescue.
