The first Hybrid was introduced to the world over a decade ago and it’s technological development has come such along way that a standard hybrid is now being considered to be conventional.
There will be those of you who still frown upon the very thought of driving a Hybrid, but the next time you mock your next door neighbour when he tucks in his prius at night remember this…Hybrids improve fuel economy by 20%-25% and considerably reduce those environment damaging fuel emissions compared to a similar non hybrid model. Some hybrids can even drive short distances using only electric power, that’s zero emissions!
You will be saving money, you will be going green and doing your bit to save the planet, and it’s cool… even celebs are doing it!
Still not convinced? Take a look at 5 of Hybrids that will be on the roads this year, you might just get a little surprise!
2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco
Impressed? I would be. Chevrolet have been clever about this one. They know that hybrids might not get the same respect as standard cars so they haven’t covered the car in ‘hybrid’ badges, and they don’t even market the car as hybrid. To me and you it is, but instead they feature the fact that the car uses eAssist technology. A milder version of a Hybrid so to speak. It has it’s critics for the way it drives but if you are still half way between a full hybrid and a standard car, this might be a great introduction to green driving and it looks great.
2013 Volkswagon Jetta Hybrid
If you really want to save fuel the Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid stands among the top fuel sippers with fuel economy in the mid-40s. It also has a great sound system with the Fender audio system available in most models. It could be a little better as far as interior goes which would put it up another notch, but maybe we are just being harsh. Definitely one of the best Hybrids around and at a good price.
The Ford C Max-Hybrid
This hybrid from ford has been dubbed the ‘Prius beater’ due to it’s better handling and power, but let’s be honest it does look better too. Where the Prius offers fuel economy and practical interior space, the C-Max does exactly that also, but with more power it provides a more engagin driver experience! This is one of the cheapest hybrids on the road but arguably the most practical, comfortable and cost efficient.
Lexus CT 200h
We all know this one! “Join the quiet revolution” campaign by singer Kylie Minogue. As Lexus went all out to create an attractive marketing campaign it mirrored an attractive car, but it isn’t all about the looks! The Lexus CT 200h brings excellent fuel economy in a good-looking hatchback package, and of course it’s a Lexus so it is comfortable and drives superbly. The only thing that can be faulted is that it lacks power and technology in the cabin, but we can’t have it all!
Toyota Prius V
We couldn’t possibly have a list of Hybrid cars without a good old Prius could we! The original hybrid car. It is a given that the Prius has excellent fuel economy and a large, airy cabin which makes it a very practical choice for families, while new electronics give it a modern tech edge. But as we have seen today, there are cars out there that are ready to really compete with Toyota in 2013.
