Mercedes reveal a car designed specifically for the virtual world of Gran Turismo 6. It’s damn cool.
Pwoar! This, ladies and gentlemen, is the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept. And you want it. It’s awesome. And fortunately you can have it, probably, well, in the virtual world of Gran Turismo 6 on PlayStation 3, in your living room, or seedy video game lair, or where ever you play Gran Turismo 6. This car is for the virtual world only.
The Vision Gran Turismo concept was designed as part of a challenge set by the daddy (creator) of the Gran Turismo game franchise, Kazunori Yamauchi. The theme of the challenge was ‘Vision Gran Turismo’ – whatever that means, hence the name of this crazy Merc.
As you might imagine, the Vision Gran Turismo is powered by a bi-turbo AMG V8 (a virtual version of the S63’s 5.5liter) producing no less than 577hp and 590lb ft of torque. An AMG sports exhaust with a cartoonish eight tailpipes also gives the car a shouty bark akin to ‘an authentic racing car sound’, apparently. This swoopy gullwing coupe is relatively light too, using all sorts of special carbon fiber and aluminum components to achieve a curb weight of 1389kgs.
Inside there’s an F1-inspired cockpit featuring a pair of brightly colored seats which form part of the cars structure – a bit like the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento which has small bits of material stuck to the tub to create a sort of extreme seat.
Of course, none of this actually means anything because the car doesn’t exist in the real world, does it? All of that ‘aluminum’ and ‘carbon fiber’ is just digits and letters in the real world. It’s a cool car nonetheless, we just hope the SLS replacement shares some styling cues with this concept because it just looks so right, eight tailpipes and everything.
