Lamborghini SUV Confirmed

Lamborghini recently announced that their Urus SUV concept is headed for production. Carhoots has the details.

The world has gone totally SUV mad. What once were horribly uncomfortable things driven only by off road enthusiasts and wannabe truckies (why you’d want to be fat, bald and hated by the majority of road users, I’m not sure), are now driven by men in suits, frighteningly terrible female drivers, and toothless, baggy trouser wearing hip hop artists carrying guns, probably. They’re all the rage, especially when fitted with disgusting chrome ‘rims’ or heaven forbid – spinners.

Now, Lamborghini, the carmaker who recently came out with a road legal Apache attack helicopter, sort of, has confirmed that they will be putting an SUV into production in the not too distant future.

But, this is Lamborghini so you can bet your cheese and crackers it won’t be any old vomit-y children carrying SUV. No, it’s more likely that Lamborghini’s Urus SUV will be the fastest, and most dynamically capable SUV… In The World. Ok, so it’ll probably still turn its passengers insides into to smelly mush trajectories if really pushed, which is good, obviously. What’s better is the fact that you’ll be able to take your dog out for a spin in your Lambo, just make sure his or her head is inside the car though, because if Lamborghinis current range of speed machines is anything to go by, the poor pups whizzing little head is going to come off if you stomp on the loud pedal while its busy slobbering all over the carbon fiber doors.

According to Harry Metcalfe from Evo Magazine, the supercar maker confirmed production of the Urus concept at the companies fiftieth anniversary dinner over the weekend. Harry tweeted from event “Lamborghini confirms Urus SUV for 2017 production at tonight’s #Lambo50 gala dinner” – seems fairly legit to us.

What’s more, apparently Audi boss Rupert Stadler told Autocar “Lamborghini has to do it. Because of the need to dovetail
into production cycles, we should see the Urus by 2017″. Audi owns Lamborghini remember, and when the boss wants something, he generally gets it, otherwise he gets a bit, er, unpleasant.

The Urus will likely be powered by the twin turbo 4.0liter V8 currently residing beneath the bonnet of Audi’s 560hp RS6 and upcoming RS7 as well as Bentley’s Continental GT V8. After some light turbo tweakery from the polo-wearing blokes at Sant’Agata Bolognese the Urus’ engine could be churning out something like 600hp. The 0-62mph sprint time should be well below the RS6’s speedy 3.9 seconds to justify the higher price tag, too, so it should be mind blowingly quick.

All of the tricky mechanical bits beneath the carbon fiber bodywork will most likely be borrowed from the world dominating Volkswagen Group. A more dynamically focused, Lambo fettled version of the next generation MLB platform which is set to underpin every new Volkswagen Group SUV – stuff like the next Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7 and VW Toureg – will almost certainly be utilized.

Expect to see the production SUV looking not too dissimilar to the Urus concept you see here towards the end of 2016. In the lengthy mean time, take a gander at Lamborghinis last SUV, the monstrous LM002.
