At least, that’s the plan if everything goes right and director Joseph Kosinski gets the green light from 20th Century Fox to make a new movie, Go Like Hell.Based on the 2009 book “Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari and their Battle For Speed and Glory at Le Mans” by A.J. Baime, it’s the story of Ford and Ferrari battling it out for endurance racing supremacy in the mid-’60s.

Baime is an editor with Playboy Magazine who based the book on extensive interviews with everyone from Lloyd Ruby and Mario Andretti to, yes, Shelby himself.Kosinski and Cruise teamed up to make the science fiction film Oblivion that was released earlier this year.

Fox has been developing Go Like Hell since 2011 and director Michael Mann and actor Brad Pitt were previously associated with the idea. Cruise of course made another auto racing movie, Days Of Thunder, about NASCAR stock car competition back in 1990.

Cruise would play Shelby who was part of Ford’s efforts to defeat Ferrari at Le Mans after Henry Ford II’s attempt to buy the legendary Italian sports car maker was rejected. There’s no word on who would play Ford or Lee Iaccoca or Enzo Ferrari. And it’s still a long way off before the production starts acquiring Ford GT40s and Ferrari 330 P3s.If everything aligns,

Go Like Hell would likely go before cameras during 2014 for a release sometime in 2015.
