2014 will see a lot of
new models in the range for Volvo. Not only were six new models launched at the
Geneva Motor Show, the new R-Design models of the S60, V60 and XC60 were
recently unveiled at the New York International Auto Show. The renewal is one of
the most extensive in Volvo’s history, with the new design focusing on improved
quality, elegance, sophistication and attention to detail.
To get more of an
appreciation of the design process of these new models and Volvo Cars’ design
philosophy we went to the home of Volvo in Gothenburg, Sweden. Here we caught
up with both interior and exterior designers to find out what motivates them
and inspires their work, and to discover what trends we can expect to see in
the upcoming months.
What we learnt? Big is
beautiful, especially when considering wheel rims. “Large rims with a
characteristic design really change the look of a Volvo, filling out the wheels
and giving the car a chunkier stance” comments Dan Sevaldson, Senior Designer
at Volvo Cars. He also notes that despite upcoming trends being important to
