Ford has released a short clip of the new Shelby GT350R Mustang on track, giving us our first listen to its incredible race-derived 5.2-litre V8 engine.
The Shelby GT350R Mustang promises to be the most track-focused muscle car Ford has ever built and possibly even quicker than the hardcore Camaro Z28. Key to the Shelby GT350R’s speed is the 5.2-litre V8 engine under the bonnet and now Ford has revealed the specific power outputs for the big race-derived motor. Peak power stands at 526hp and torque at 429lb-ft, considering the Mustang doesn’t use turbochargers or a supercharger, those are very impressive numbers. The big power figures are achieved through a sky-high 8250rpm redline, and at that engine speed the atmospheric V8 makes an incredible noise.
Accompanying the news that that the Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R is the short video clip below that gives us our first taste of the awesome new V8 engine. And it sounds properly bad ass. The Shelby GT350R engine uses a flat plane crank design which is more common in exotic supercars like the Ferrari 458 and McLaren 650S. A design like this allows the engine to breath more freely while giving a unique tone.
