All the highlights from this weekend’s 2015 Le Mans 24 hour race, in which Porsche claimed first and second position.
The Le Mans 24 hour race took place this weekend and it offered plenty of thrills, spills and quality racing in all classes. Of course, most of the attention was on the top-tier LMP1 class but the lesser GT classes were spectacular, with the lead GTE Amateur Aston Martin crashing with around forty minutes left in the race and a close battle between the Ferrari 458 and Corvette which ended up winning in GTE Pro.
Porsche, Audi, Toyota and Nissan battled it out in the LMP1 class, but really it was a two-horse race with Toyota lacking speed and Nissan without reliability or the performance required to keep up. To be fair, the Nissan GT-R LM race cars weren’t really ready for the race and had little testing beforehand. The Nissan Nismo team treated this year’s race as more of a shakedown test than a proper all-out fight for the title. In the end just one of the Nissans made it to the finish.
At the front Porsche held the top two positions for the vast majority of the race. In the closing hours, the battle for second started to heat up as Audi closed in but in the end it was a comfortable one-two for Porsche, while Audi came in third and fourth.
