Not The Bees! 20,000 Bees Swarm Car (VIDEO)

No way would I go near this car. Not a chance. This is what nightmares are made of.

An unfortunate motorist in Portsmouth, England, has had to face this monstrosity. 20,000 (don’t try counting) bees migrating from an old hive, finding the wheel arch a more than adequate new home.

Sure, bees may be endangered, but what can you do in this situation?

Burn it. Burn it now. Watch below.

10 Of The Best Clever Car Billboards

With online advertising and expensive multimedia campaigns, you may fear the iconic billboard advert is dead.

Fear not; billboards are still going strong. And they are as eye-catching and clever as ever; whether that’s a good thing for us consumers or not.

After looking at lists of the best, and the worst, TV commercials, alongside our top 20 print ads, we’ve compiled our top 10 clever billboard advertisements.

    10) Audi R8 GT

Advertising is all about personalization these days. And gaining the attention of Lake Forest, IL is a good start. By keeping the locals on their toes looking out for an Audi R8 Gt

    9) BMW i3 – Become Electric

What better way to advertise the world’s first premium fully electric car, than with electricity styling? The glowing effect around the cut-out of the i3 is certainly very striking, and is sure to catch the attention of passers by. Although it does vaguely look like something out of TRON.

    8) Mini – Let there be Xenon

Attracting a crowd from far further than eye distance of the ad itself, these Batman-esque lights in the sky are sure to make you look at this gravity-defying Mini. Plus, it demonstrates the true power of Xenon.

    creative-funny-billboards-40

    7) Ford Mustang – Fast

GE Lexan EXL semi-transparent resin gave birth to this advert for the Mustang. So what is it? Well, it blurs the scene behind the billboard, whatever it may be; demonstrating the speed and ferocity of Ford in a way no other advert could. Awesome.

    mustangmountainsweb_0

    6) Mini – Electronic Billboard

These personalized ads are activated via humans with iPads, displaying photos of drivers and various messages. Mini’s idea was to make their brand feel special, with the hashtag #MiniNotNormal supporting this. I can’t help but think this would be a pretty major distraction for drivers, however.

    5) Hot Wheels – Loop the loop billboard

Okay, so maybe this one isn’t directly a car brand. But it’s still car related, and I couldn’t resist including it.  On a long stretch of highway, coming across this Hot Wheels loop-the-loop is sure to bring a smile to your face. Ahh, to be young.

    loop-looping-outdoor-ambient-marketing-bogota-alternatif-affichage-colombie-HotWheels-1

    4) Smart – Small is beautiful

Smart have always gone about things differently, and this campaign is no different. Who said billboards have to be huge? Small car, small billboard. Very classy.

     smart

    3) Smart – Bridge jump billboard

Another entry from Smart, demonstrating the more fun and zany side of advertisements. Having to double-take the view of a car making the jump between this bridge is a very “smart” idea.

    smart06

    2) Ford Mustang – Smoking billboard

Couple a billboard with a smoke machine, and this is what you get. Appearing at the Woodward Dream Cruise, every 3 minutes the rear tire would spin, generating the appearance of a burnout.

    1) Audi and BMW – Chess Billboard War

If you have seen this before, then you probably saw this coming. One of my personal favorite brand-wars, the two German car manufacturers BMW and Audi go head-to-head billboard style.  Who wins this game of chess? It’s a tough choice.

    3427670079_fa8f403233_b

    Honorable mention:

So the last post was pretty smart, right? Well Audi replied once more, showing off their sports car prowess in the form of the R8. Of course, BMW also have their own heritage of fast cars, in the form of F1. Unfortunately, it seems the blimp was a photoshop, but to be frank, that doesn’t have any effect on the impact for us on the internet. It still remains a stroke of pure genius, in one of the best rivalries going.

20 Of The Best Car Print Ads

Advertising is an integral part of our everyday lives. And whilst some of it is incessant and annoying, others are pure genius. Perhaps worthy of being labelled as art, if it weren’t for the business side of things.

Here at Carhoots, we’ve come together with 20 top car print adverts you can find; whether they’re funny, ingenious, or eye-catching.

    20) Mazda BT-50 – The Farm

This ad manages to align themselves with a large portion of their target audience in style. Doesn’t it look blissful?

    mazda_bt_50_farm_w1

    19) Land Rover – Eyeballs

This print ad expresses the kind of adventure you can have with a Land Rover. Although for some, this may be a tad too much.

    enhanced-buzz-wide-11714-1372164667-7

    18) Ford – Ford Service and Tires

Conquer the ice, they say? There’s no doubt this is impressive advertising, and is pretty striking; but realism obviously wasn’t their focus. But hey, this is the world advertising; who said any of it had to be true?!

    ford_ice_aotw_14-00-38

    17) Fiat 500 – Emissions

What’s better than animals in advertisements? Animals driving cars in advertisements. Fiat go one better, by showing a Panda driving and crashing a Fiat 500.

     funny-car-ad

    16) Mini – Rollercoaster

What’s more fun than a rollercoaster? Driving a Mini Cooper, of course.

    31732_MINI_Rollercoaster

    15) Land Rover Discovery 4 – Goggles

Man and car as one, in places man cannot survive. That’s what the Land Rover Discovery is all about, right? LAND-ROVER-Goggles

    14)  Smart – Pollution:

More of a global warming advert than anything, but it does manage to clearly show how much difference driving a Smart car could make.smart_polluting2

    13) MG – Your Mother Wouldn’t Like It:

Sex sells, but who’s buying? Lots of people, after seeing this advert.

    18xi18ijx9xkyjpg

    12) Mini – Halloween:

A nifty ad playing with the Mini’s playful stereotype, turning it quite literally on it’s head. Scary stuff.

    69d2b50d564790e47fb377c594655b0e

    11) Plymouth Neon – Hi:

What a cute little car. It’s saying hi! Why shouldn’t I buy it?

    123

    10) Ford Fusion – Urban Activity Vehicle:

A very clever idea that certainly pays off; access to the city in the palm of your hands.

    FordKeySkyline

    9) Volkswagen Beetle – Lemon:

The VW Beetle had a lot of good ads, and this is one that sold the car in droves. Think small, don’t focus on luxury; focus on lemons.volkswagen_lemon_hires1

    8) Jeep – Earth Day:

A clever take on the Earth Day, managing to align the 4×4 Jeep with a concept that are usually opposed. I’m also rather fond of the minimalist design.

    384

    7) Audi A1 – A Big Idea Condensed:

A clever design exploring everything the A1 has to offer. No arguments there.audi_a1_idea_condensed4

    6) Volkswagen Jetta – Beach:

If only this one were true. A clever take on the Jetta, showing there’s fun for all the family. Although I’m not sure this would meet safety regulations, being made of sand and all.

    Jetta special awards version final.indd

    5) Volvo Turbo Wagon:

An oldie, but a goody.  Cargo space and power; what more do you need?

    740turboad

    4) Ford – Bluetooth v Headphones:

Managing to turn a daily nuisance in the life of many into an amusing advert, and then offer a solution, is a smart move from Ford. Mine always end up in the Double overhand knot, whatever I do.

    Bluetooth-english-1800x

    3) Porsche – Nobody’s Perfect:

Simplicity is the key to advertising. And the LeMans results spoke for themselves in Porsche’s ad, alongside a little sarcastic self-depreciating humor. Classy.

     tumblr_mtzxa15yPk1qa79lmo1_1280

    2) Daihatsu Hijet MPV:

The truth hurts. No many how glamorous a Lamborghini may be, this situation is an impossibility.

    funny-car-advertisements

    1) Audi – Can’t Stop Driving:

Despite the fact this ad suggests Audi are the chosen car for criminals, it is brilliant. It takes a minute for the message to sink in, and highlights how much fun this guy must be having to leave his mates in the midst of a heist. And not a car in sight. Genius.

    Car Vent Goes Mental (VIDEO)

You wouldn’t think a YouTube video revolving around a car vent would be so entertaining.

Watch in awe as this car vent manages to propel itself, making a sound akin to a car (or a lawnmower) in itself.

Absolutely bonkers. This should be an add-on accessory.

10 Of The Most Ridiculous And Unnecessary Car Features

There are an inexhaustible number of add-ons and features for every make of car, some of which you may think are a bit on the silly side. However, we have come up with a list of features which cross that line without hesitation.

    10) Infotainment Pack -Bentley

    info

If you have the money to splash on a Bentley of this caliber, then you have the money to spend on these build in iPad stations, for all your entertaining needs.

    9) Pulsating Speaker Lights – Kia Soul

    speak

Is it bad I actually kind of like these? Despite that, I can still agree that are quite ridiculous. Adding the quirkiness necessary to compete with cars like the Fiat 500, it also seems like they ran out of ideas.

    8) Pop-up Dash Speakers – Audi

    dash

180-degree Tweeters live in your Audi, rearing their head everytime you turn on the stereo. As amusing as this may be to watch, I can’t help but think it’s a little unnecessary.

    7) Top Speed Key – Bugatti Veyron

    tsk

Inserting this special key makes the Bugatti 2.6 inches from the ground, rather than the normal 3.7, allowing butt-clenching speeds of 254mph.

    6) Granite Trim – Mercedes

    granite

Because nothing says class than having one of the heaviest possible stones mounted in your car. It’s not going to help with speed or performance, but hey, if you’re purchasing this kind of car, you’re probably more about style and being pretentious anyway.

    5) Door-Mounted Umbrella – Rolls Royce

    um

Everyone needs teflon-lined umbrellas, whether that be for yourself, or your chaffeur. Popping out at the touch of a shiny chrome button, the fact these are hidden within the door seems a little ostentatious.

    4) Perfume Dispenser – Fiat 500

    perf

A pretty odd extra for your Fiat 500, this dispenser takes up one of your cup holders, and will keep it smelling just wonderful. Snazzy, huh?

    3) Starlight Ceiling – Opel Adam

    opel

Made famous by Rolls Royce, this feature also makes an appearance in the Opel Adam. Despite the Adam being touted as a quirky and modern car, I feel the target audiences for this car and the Rolls Royce are very different indeed. Except that the Opel Adam’s version is not nearly as impressive.

    2) Motorized Cup Holders – Cadillac

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7yG2Iwyk0g

Have you ever seen anything as ridiculous as this? Since when did cup holders need to be motorized? All they need to be is a cup-sized hole.

    1) Whale Leather – Dartz Prombron Monaco Red Edition

    red

Crafted from the sex organ of a male whale, the interior of this car caused a lot of controversy. Of course, many thought this was a joke, but the laughter was silenced when it wasn’t. This outcry later led to whale leather being discontinued for the normal variety.

Twins Mime Frozen Song In Hilarious Parody (VIDEO)

By now, pretty much everyone has seen the video of “Good Looking Parents Sing Disney’s Frozen“. Since then, there have been a number of copycats and parodies.

If you haven’t, then where the hell have you been? Keep up to date below.

But none have been as amusing and peculiar as this new video, whereby identical twins mime the song with their dear old mother sat in the background.

    frozen2

It’s difficult to say what is going through their elderly mother’s mind whilst they mime a Disney song aimed at children, but the end result is a pretty funny video, whether you like the song or not.

Why You Shouldn’t Tow Your Car With A Bus (VIDEO)

Follow eBay’s board Dream Cars on Pinterest.

Those Russians do get up to some amusing antics. In this video, some guys think it would be a great idea to use a bus to tow their car. How could that possibly go wrong?

It seems the answer, is in a great many ways. I’d say it’s an understatement to call this a massive fail in every single way.

Maserati 3500GT: Love At First Drive? (VIDEO)

What car is special to you? Your first car? Your first family car? Your mid-life crisis purchase?

For this guy, it’s his Maserati 3500GT; and it’s easy to see why. It’s a beautiful car, that has a charm many modern cars lack.

    mas4 mas1

The scenery and weather in the video definitely compliment the Maserati well.

It’s touching to see how much cars, and one car in particular, can mean to a person.

Dubai Ridding Roads Of Pesky Peasants?

A lot of people in Dubai are doing pretty well for themselves, to say the least. It’s basically the capital of the world for wealth. And it seems this may have gone to their heads a bit, as Dubai are now looking to prevent poor people from using the roads.

Yep, it’s as ridiculous as it sounds. It seems the roads just aren’t spacious enough for the rich folk.

Hussain Lootah is the man behind this move, attempting to rid Dubai of heavy congestion. The plan is, to make car parks, fuel prices, and insurance, much more expensive; essentially meaning those that can’t bathe in their own money won’t be able to use their cars to get around.

    chrome1

An all too common ridiculous sight in Dubai

They are also planning to implement a strict rule, which prevents those under a minimum salary threshold from owning a car. Of course, because it’s Dubai, the minimum salary might be pretty hefty. And those in power will probably throw money in an attempt to make driving a very exclusive club, for their ludicrously expensive vehicles.

Of course, the poor have been reminded by Lootah that there’s always the lovely public transport available. The Metro is being expanded in the future, and there are a number of luxury buses to hop on. Since when can the words “bus” and “luxury” be used in the same sentence, especially when they’re public?

At least the police won't be facing restrictions

At least the police won’t be facing restrictions

Nothing quite like having your independence stripped off of you. I feel as though the ability to own a car should be a basic human right. I mean sure, congestion, pollution, and rush hour queues have to be combated in some way; but sensible options such as awareness schemes and carpooling have been dismissed already. But these kind of stupid ideas some how slip through. The luxury of some, seems to be far more important than convenience for the entire population.

Perhaps the idea of ridding the roads of peasantry is far more appealing than solving the original problem itself.

McLaren 650s Geneva Debut Next Month (PHOTOS)

A stunning looking car, the McLaren 650s seeks to establish McClaren as a force to be reckoned with, alongside other manufacturers such as Ferrari and Lamborghini.

McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt intends to triple sales within two years, and it seems the 650s is it’s first step in achieving this aim.

    650S3

Will the McLaren 650s be fruitful against their rivals? Only time will tell. But if I had the money, I’d be queuing up for one right now.

Face It, Car Touch Screens Suck. Except This One (VIDEO)

Car interfaces are generally pretty dire. There, I said it. In a world full of touch screens in our homes, in public, and even in our pockets; you think car manufacturers would  wise up and get with the times.

We spend a lot of time in our cars, and a lot of money on them. Why should we settle for a low-res touch screen crammed with buttons, when the traditional plastic button worked better? Touch screens were implemented as a selling point, rather than a new intuitive way of controlling your car.

But a guy named Matthaeus Krenn has come up with an ingenious new interface that would revolutionize how we interact with our cars.

    ui3

It’s not perfect. Hell, it looks confusing, and working out how to use it would be a challenge. Would I remember how many fingers to use to control air flow whilst flying down the freeway? Probably not. But it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

    ui2

But car makes should take note; and who knows, maybe we will see Android or iOS in our cars within the next few years. They need to take a step back, and build an interface from the ground up that’s easy and fast; just like this guy has done.

Have a gander at the concept UI in action below.

Elderly Woman Drives Wrong Way Down A11 Dual Carriageway (VIDEO)

An elderly woman has been filmed hurtling along the wrong side of the A11 and A14 towards Cambridge, causing oncoming cars to veer out of her path.

Speeding along at 50mph, this driver caused a host of 999 calls, and police managed to finally pull her over with a rolling roadblock near Exning on Sunday afternoon.

She took no notice of horns or flashing headlights to warn her she was going down the wrong way, and carried on for over 50 miles. The fact no accidents occurred is astounding, and she will not be met with any charges, as police have stated she has mental health issues.
