Homeless man drives Chevrolet Corvette (VIDEO)

    Homeless Corvette

The internet is full of car-related viral prank videos, but this one is a little different and will warm your heart as a homeless man’s day is made.

All of those funny entertaining viral prank videos are great, but actually helping someone and changing their life for the better is far more powerful. Raising awareness for something meaningful is also pretty cool. This viral video shows a couple of Youtubers that would ordinarily be pranking or picking up girls help a homeless man and really make his day. First they tell the homeless man they’re going to let him drive their new bright red Chevy Corvette convertible sports car. Initially he’s a bit apprehensive, as you might be if a couple of random teenagers came and asked if you’d like to drive their Corvette. But if he accepts, he’s in for one hell of a treat thanks to these Youtube pranksters.

I won’t reveal any more, you’ll have to watch the genuinely heart-warming video below to see what happens next.

Lesson: be grateful for what you have, somewhere there’s always someone out there that’s doing it tougher than you are, try to do what you can to help others.

What’s Jeremy Clarkson doing with this Corvette Z06?

    Jeremy Clarkson Corvette

Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson has posted an image of a C7 Corvette Z06 on Twitter sparking rumours that he’s filming again.

What exactly is Jeremy Clarkson doing? Since the fracas with a Top Gear producer and the demise of the show as we know it, Clarkson has been hinting that we haven’t seen the last of him. A few weeks ago he met with co-presenters James May and Richard Hammond as well as former Top Gear producer Andy Wilman. And with that information its believed the four are planning to start their own motoring show in a similar format to the Top Gear so many know and love.

Now we might have the next piece of the puzzle with Jeremy Clarkson posting a picture of a Corvette Z06 and a film crew to his Twitter. The group appears to be at a race track too – the natural habitat of the Corvette – and if you look closely you can see a short man in the background that appears to be Richard Hammond. There’s also a big TV-grade camera and a few other random people.

Are they filming a segment for their new show that doesn’t even officially exist yet? Is it even a TV show that they’re planning? Could be a Youtube series, Netflix or DVD? Hopefully we’ll find out soon.

Is this Corvette Photo Worth $5,000?

To help introduce its 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible, Chevrolet gave three New York-based college students the rare opportunity to shoot the car before its world debut at the recent 2014 New York Auto Show to create entries for a photo contest. The students–none of whom had ever photographed a vehicle–had one day to create four dramatic images of the supercharged beauty, and the winner, decided by the most votes on the Corvette Facebook page, was to receive a $5,000 prize.

Well, the fans have voted Dan Wang’s photos the best. Wang, a 22-year-old advertising photography student at Rochester Institute of Technology, chose to portray how the Corvette Z06 Convertible would look on the road by using unique lighting techniques and background elements. All the shots were taken in the same dark room.

“The Corvette Z06 photo challenge has been a great experience,” Wang said in a statement. “I plan to use the prize money to help fund the pursuit of some of my personal projects, like documenting the Hardcore Happening, an annual Hot Rod Festival in upstate New York.”

The 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible goes on sale early next year alongside the 2015 Corvette Z06 coupe. Both cars come powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V-8 delivering an estimated 625 horsepower and 635 pound-feet of torque. Both also come with the choice of a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic.

Everything You Need To Know About The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51

Everything You Need To Know About The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51

“What a weird time to get a Corvette.”

My friends are right. The high is currently 23 degrees Fahrenheit, and my press loaner – the Z51-equipped Stingray Coupe – is wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sports, regarded as among the best sports-car tires … when it’s warm out. Under about 40 degrees, they turn into grip-less blocks of ice, and when you’re driving a car that possesses even more torque (460) than it does horsepower (455), grip is paramount. Experiences with older Corvettes had my friends believing I would end up so far off the road that the USPS would have to give me my own street address.

I, too, believed that the all-new-for-2014 Stingray would be just a bit too powerful for weather patterns atypical of San Diego in July. Thankfully, we were all wrong. Chevrolet knocked this one out of the park, pushing the Corvette just upmarket enough to provide a more-than-capable grand tourer without losing anything that made the car great in its previous iterations. It’s nice and calm when you want to drive like a geriatric, but when you’re ready to engage your inner preteen, the car will give you more than you know what to do with.

Even with that Z51 package – a track-ready collection consisting of a limited-slip differential, dry-sump oil system, performance suspension and gear ratios, bigger brakes, and the aforementioned summer tires – the car is more than willing to live in whatever environment you throw it into. That said, it would be very smart of you to spring for some snow tires.

    Interior

Everything You Need To Know About The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51
Is this even a Corvette interior? Everything feels so nice. The standard seats are supportive and more than comfortable enough for longer road trips – a far cry from the leather-wrapped milk crates in older models. The inclusion of two screens – one for the dashboard and one for the center console – also contributes to that 21st-century feeling without feeling over-engineered or pointlessly included.

Everything is driver-focused in the cockpit, with the exception of the redundant passenger-side HVAC controls – and even those are built with the intention of keeping the passenger’s hands away from the shifter and center console in general. The inclusion of two passenger-side oh-shit handles means that you have even more reason to ignore your screaming co-driver and push harder around the upcoming corner.

    Exterior

Everything You Need To Know About The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51

This car has singlehandedly turned more heads than any other vehicle we’ve tested this year. It has a look that screams, “I might be a man-child, but I’m having far too much fun to notice.” The rear end borrows more than a few pages from the design books of Lockheed Martin or McDonnell Douglas, but not enough that you want to take your shirt off and play some oddly-competitive volleyball to a Kenny Loggins soundtrack. Its styling is far less smooth this time around, and its angles are reminiscent of a European exotic.

It’s just a damn good looking car, something that kids will want to have on a bedroom poster.

    On the Road

Everything You Need To Know About The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51

Even without the drive-mode selector in Eco – which turns on the fuel-saving cylinder deactivation – the Corvette manages nearly 30 mpg on the highway at decent speeds. There’s also a somewhat-annoying skip-shift that takes you directly from first to fourth gear, but that’s easily overridden by letting the revs climb just a bit higher in first.

But who gives a crap about that, aside from the EPA? This is a Corvette, and power delivery is what matters most. And that power is available in just about every gear at every speed. If you’re a fan of announcing your presence, make sure to spring for the optional multi-mode exhaust; moving the drive-mode selector to Sport or Track opens up an internal valve that gives the exhaust a sound bordering on aftermarket. A cold start in Sport is enough to have the neighbors leaving notes on your windshield the following morning.

    Final Thoughts

Everything You Need To Know About The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51

The Stingray is a brilliant value, coming with an MSRP that’s nearly 25 percent lower than its overseas competition. Of course, since Chevrolet still keeps bean-counters on the payroll, some corners needed to be cut along the way, some more annoying than others. The car does like to shake a bit at idle, and at low speeds the brakes will squeak like mice in Gitmo, but those flaws are expected in a car that still places performance over all else.

By far, the most unforgivable flaw of the car was the fender rub. Even before you’ve turned the steering wheel to full lock in either direction, the wheels and tires will start smacking around on pieces of the Corvette’s fender liners. This is especially annoying when backing out of driveways and parking lots, or while making tight turns at slow speeds. It’s almost like the car has aftermarket wheels with incorrect offsets. Come on.

Affordable-ish Rides That Will Get You Laid and Others That, Well Won’t!

Affordable-ish Rides that will get you laid and others that, well won’t

If there is one thing that I have taken away from mainstream media, it is that a sexy vehicle will attract an equally sexy woman. But with so many on the market how do you know which ones are really “chick magnets”? [said in best Borat voice]  Don’t fret any longer; I have compiled a list of the most affordable rides on the market to get you laid, and some to avoid like the plague.

    The Good:

    2014 Chevrolet Corvette

Affordable-ish Rides that will get you laid and others that, well won’tImage via Autoblog

Let’s assume for a moment that you have $60,000 lying around to spend on the best wingman money can buy, the 2014 Corvette Convertible.  If you do; then consider purchasing this triple threat that will have ladies dropping their jaws, tops, and panties.

    2014 Lexus IS

Affordable-ish Rides that will get you laid and others that, well won’tImage via Uncrate

A Lexus screams luxury and sexiness. The IS series offers up a range of options that are not only affordable, but also a great value.  Take this beauty for a night out and she may not even be the prettiest thing you come home with.

    2014 Ford Mustang

Affordable-ish Rides that will get you laid and others that, well won’tImage via GTSpirit

A little more reasonably priced, this baby combines the old-school muscle car with a fresh, sleek look.  Pull back the retractable roof and speed down the highway in this American classic. Before you know it, your girl’s hair in the wind won’t be the only thing being blown.

    The Badass:

    2014 Jeep Wrangler

Affordable-ish Rides that will get you laid and others that, well won’tImage via WakPaper

Are you a rough and rugged manly man? Well even if you aren’t you can still pull the wool over the ladies eyes with the help from a 2014 Jeep Wrangler. Nothing says fun like a Wrangler and if own one then you’ll see they can pull a lot more than trailers.

    2014 Chevy Silverado

Affordable-ish Rides that will get you laid and others that, well won’tImage via AutoBlog

Guys, let’s face it, women love a man who can take control. Nothing says that more than a heavy-duty pickup truck.  The 2014 Silverado is the perfect truck to lasso in your damsel in distress. In no time you will be (cough cough) “like a rock”.

    The Classics Restored

Affordable-ish Rides that will get you laid and others that, well won’tImage via Roadrunner

A restored muscle car or even Volkswagen shaggin’ wagon, will aid in your various sexcapades.  Restoring a vehicle will show ladies that you can take time and be delicate with fragile parts. It also broadens your casting net, opening windows of opportunity for nostalgic lays.

    The Ugly:

    The Prius

Affordable-ish Rides that will get you laid and others that, well won’t Image via Gas2org

Sure it is popular to be environmentally conscious, but is it sexy? Doubtful! The Prius screams pansy and as we mentioned earlier, girls want a strong, confident man. Who cares about how much gas costs or whether you are leaving a huge carbon footprint on the environment? If you think a girl is going to get in bed with you because you drive a Prius, then you need to stop using that artificial sugar from your Indie coffee shop.

    Toyota Camry

Affordable-ish Rides that will get you laid and others that, well won’tImage via Wikipedia

The Camry is one of the most reliable and well known cars available. This is exactly the reason that no girl is going to want to sleep with you for driving one. A girl is not looking for boring and predictable, oh contraire, they want exciting and dangerous. You just are not going to find that in a Camry. Sure, your parents would love for you to drive a Camry because they know you can’t possibly get into trouble in one, but where’s the fun in that?

    The Minivan

Affordable-ish Rides that will get you laid and others that, well won’t Image via AutoBlog

This atrocious automobile offers little to nothing for the male specie looking to get laid. Aside from room to perform the act, the vehicles only other benefit is likely to be a backseat DVD Player. It will be a tough task, but if you are able to coax a lady back into the van, you can at least salvage the night with a nice movie. Avoid the minivan or any other van for that matter at all cost!

Twin Turbo Hennessey HPE700 Corvette Stingray (PHOTOS)

    Hennessey HPE700 Corvette Stingray

With the twin-turbocharged HPE700, Hennessey says it’s turned “America’s sportscar” into America’s supercar. Looking at the specifications, it’s hard to argue with that claim.

The 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 is aided by the aforementioned pair of turbines (a supercharged version is also available), plus an upgraded fuel system, re-tuned ECU, and other modifications. The result is 708 horsepower and 661 pound-feet of torque, besting even the new Corvette Z06.

DON’T MISS: Would-Be Porsche Thief Foiled By Locked Doors

That monster motor is available with both of the stock Corvette Stingray’s transmissions: a seven-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. With the optional 20-inch drag radial tires, Hennessey says the HPE700 will do 0 to 60 mph in a very supercar-like 2.9 seconds, and cover the quarter mile in 10.5 seconds at 135.4 mph. It’s also pretty darn good at doing burnouts.

A less-powerful HPE600 has already been clocked at 200.6 mph on a stretch of Texas toll road, but Hennessey hasn’t had a chance to take the HPE700 to terminal velocity yet. The company estimates that it will exceed 210 mph.

To keep the car from taking off at those speeds, Hennessey equips the HPE700 with a carbon fiber front spoiler, rear-lip spoiler, and side sills to provide extra downforce. They also help improve the Corvette Stingray’s already-fantastic looks.

All of that performance comes with a price tag of $120,000, including the cost of a Corvette Stingray Z51 with the 3LT option group. However, if a 700 hp C7 Corvette seems too conservative, Hennessey has other Stingray upgrade options.

From the HPE700, buyers can upgrade to the 800-hp HPE800 or the HPE1000 which has–you guessed it–a Bugatti Veyron-rivaling 1,000 hp.

National Corvette Museum 40-Foot Sinkhole Caught On Camera! (VIDEO)

National Corvette Museum Hit By 40-Foot Sinkhole Swallowing 8 Cars (PHOTOS)

The National Corvette Museum has been temporarily closed due to a huge 40-foot sinkhole which has swallowed eight Corvettes. Fortunately nobody was in the building at the time and their are no casualties but it is quite a sight!

UPDATE: This security video footage has just been released showing the sinkhole forming and the aftermath…

The museum released this statement and images earlier today:

National Corvette Museum Media Alert – Sinkhole Erupts in Skydome

We received a call at 5:44am from our security company alerting us of our motion detectors going off in our Skydome area of the Museum. Upon arrival it was discovered that a sinkhole had collapsed within the Museum. No one was in or around the Museum at the time. The Bowling Green Fire Department arrived on the scene and secured the area.
It is with heavy hearts that we report that eight Corvettes were affected by this incident. Those cars include:

1993 ZR-1 Spyder on loan from General Motors
2009 ZR1 “Blue Devil” on loan from General Motors
The other six vehicles were owned by the National Corvette Museum including:

    1962 Black Corvette
    1984 PPG Pace Car
    1992 White 1 Millionth Corvette
1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette
    2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette
    2009 White 1.5 Millionth Corvette

None of the cars affected were on loan from individuals. We have contacted a structural engineer who is arriving today to assess the existing damage and stability of the surrounding areas. While the Skydome area is closed, the remainder of the Museum is still open.

This year we celebrate our 20th Anniversary and look forward to re-opening the Skydome exhibit area very soon.

10 Collectible Muscle Cars You Can Afford: They’re Not *All* $3.5M Corvettes

It’s mind-boggling. You sit there for hours, watching middle-aged guys in Hawaiian shirts and big watches bid stupid money on muscle cars on the myriad cable channels that broadcast collector-car auctions these days. Crappy models that were being swapped amongst migrant farm workers a decade ago for tens of dollars go for high five-figures now. And the good stuff is all over $100K. The great stuff? That’s in the millions: A 1967 L88 Corvette went for $3.5 million at Barrett-Jackson—before all the fees that make founder Craig Jackson wealthy. So it’s safe to say that you probably can’t afford the classic muscle car of your dreams. (What are you going to do with a $3.5 million Corvette anyway? Drive it?) READ MORE ››

SRT Boss Says Viper Must Not Be Compared to Corvette

The SRT Viper did not enjoy a smooth sales start when it debuted last year, but despite problems, SRT CEO Ralph Gilles said in November that there were no reasons to worry, as the plant had hundreds of orders waiting to be built.

Nevertheless, in a recent interview withAutomotive News, the executive rejected comparisons with the successful Chevrolet Corvette.

“We’ve never tried to be Corvette. We never will be. We’re handmade. It takes 18 hours to paint the stripe on a Viper. We color sand the entire car, inside and outside. All the panels are beautifully finished. We’re trying to build a custom show car that you can own. This is not a disposable device here,” Gilles said.

That’s not exactly a delicate statement, is it?

    SRT Viper

He added that SRT’s program to let consumers test drive Vipers is going really well and has helped buyers understand the new Viper. “Unfortunately, people had it in their minds that the car was just an evolution, and it’s not. It’s a whole new machine. It’s direct. It’s handmade. It’s tight,” the executive added.

First drive: the C7 Corvette Convertible

    Corvette C7 first drive

Been waiting to hear more about the new convertible Stingray. What’s the story?

Designed at the same time as the hardtop, you might think that the convertible was unnecessary as all ‘Vettes now have a targa-style removable roof panel. So you can get your fresh air on and have a solid roof over your head when you’re finished. But then you drive the soft-topped version and it makes all the sense in the world. There are several reasons for this.

Chevrolet Corvette’s Performance Data Recorder Makes Driving Feel Like A Video Game (VIDEO)

Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Performance Data Recorder

Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Performance Data Recorder
The beginning of this week, folks got pretty excited about Chevrolet’s latest move to make the all-new C7 Corvette even more lovable.

Announced the first day of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2014), the 2015 Corvette Stingray can be had with a Performance Data Recorder.

That’s for all the tracks many buyers will likely NOT be going to. Anyhow…

The folks at Engadget had the chance to get a bit more intimate with this all-new piece of racing-inspired technology. In doing so, they experienced a walkthrough of it and we’ve got the video of it right here, down below.

Should These ‘Top 10 Classic Cars Of Tomorrow’ Really Be On This List?

Should These 'Top 10 Classic Cars Of Tomorrow' Really Be On This List?

Should These 'Top 10 Classic Cars Of Tomorrow' Really Be On This List?
Let’s start this off by saying the folks at Hagerty know classic cars. They know them really well, and that’s why they’re good at pricing them, insuring them, and generally understanding the world of collector cars from minor muscle machines to top-flight European exotics. So when we hear that Hagerty had just put out a list highlighting the new vehicles that it feels should be considered future classics, we expected to be in total agreement. We aren’t.

The rules: They must be new cars and they must start below $100,000. Out of ten on the list… we agree with about three of them. Maybe four.

Let’s go through this list one vehicle at a time, shall we?

    1. Jaguar F-Type R

    2015 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe

No question, an easy pick and we would put it atop our list as well. However, we feel this one gets in by the skin of its teeth based on the rules. Hagerty is going off MSRP, but if you find someone who had actually paid just $99,000 for this crazy kitty we’d be shocked. Your author has driven a V8 S… which wore a sticker price of $104,000.

    2. BMW M5 Sedan

    2014 BMW M5

Not a chance. If the E39 M5 hasn’t made the leap yet, then the latest iteration won’t either. We’re not saying the E39 won’t get there, because it definitely will… but it’s not there yet. If you have your eye on owning one though, you’d better do it now. As for the current car, just wait for it to depreciate… massively.

     3. Chevrolet COPO Camaro:

    2014 Chevrolet COPO Camaro

Instant collectible. It’s produced in small batches, so its limited availability makes it instantly desirable for collectors.

    4.  Maserati Ghibli S:

    Maserati Ghibli

You know how much current collectors love theoriginal Ghibli… wait, they don’t? Ah, got it. Look, the old Ghibli is a pretty cool looking machine, and the new car is, well, actually rather excellent, but it’s no future classic. No one will be pining for a vintage (current) Quattroporte 25 years from now, and no one will be pining for the baby version either.

    Yes, a thousand times yes.

    6.  Chevrolet Corvette Stingray:

    2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible

This will inevitably be a future classic, but that’s practically cheating. It’s going to take some time, of course, but it will eventually get there. Buy one for your great grandkids… because you’re not likely to see it rise in value in your lifetime.

    7.  Nissan 370Z NISMO:

    2014 Nissan 370Z NISMO

Nope. The 240Z? Come to papa. A 1984-1989 Z31 300ZX? Maybe someday. The twin-turbo Z32? There’s a chance, but we’re a ways off. The 350Z? Never. The 370Z is a great leap over the 350Z, and it’s a blast to drive… but we don’t see folks clamoring for them in the future.

    8.  Dodge Challenger Shaker:

    2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker

The future generation will probably opt for the 370Z Nismo before it spends serious coin at an auction block for a modern Challenger. This is just another thing that the old Challenger does better than the new Challenger… bring bucks at the auction block for years to come.

    9.  Jeep Wrangler Rubicon X:

    2014 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon X

The most confusing choice on the list. All those CJ5 and CJ7 Jeeps aren’t forecasting too strongly, so why should the Rubicon X? Think 4.0-liter I6-equipped Jeeps, not 3.6-liter units (even though that engine is WAY better than the last one Chrysler stuck in there).

    10.  Ford Fiesta ST:

2014 Ford Fiesta ST (Euro spec) - First Drive, March 2013

This one… actually could happen. The Fiesta ST could be one of those once in-awhile something-special machines that flies in out of nowhere, impresses everyone who touches it, and leaves us far to quickly. We hope that’s not the case, but it’s highly probable.

So there you have it. That’s the Hagerty list, and that’s how we feel about it. We’d just like to reiterate that Hagerty typically knows what it’s talking about… so we could be way off. What do you think? Sound off below.

See The New Bugatti and Corvette Autobots In New Transformers 4 Movie

Bugatti and Corvette To Be New Autobots In Transformers 4 Movie!

Bugatti and Corvette To Be New Autobots In Transformers 4 Movie!
Bumblebee and co will be joined by two new autobots for Transformers 4 in the form of a Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse and a C7 Corvette Stingray!

For movie lovers and car lovers this is huge!

It is difficult to imagine that a Bugatti could get any cooler, so knowing that there will be a Bugatti that can transform into a robot and save the world is pretty cool!

We are unaware of any further details on this aside from the rumours that the Bugatti Veyron will be the car representing Drift and the Corvette Stingray will take the form of Slingshot.

These won’t be the only surprises for the movie though with Optimus Prime set for a redesign and Mark Wahlberg being added to the cast!

We are already excited for this one!
