Driving Saudi Arabia – The Hidden Kingdom With A Gang Of McLaren 12C’s (VIDEO)

Saudi Arabia is the largest country in the Middle East, so the best way to cross it would be in a fast car. But what ride to choose for more than 2,000 kilometers (1,243 miles) of driving through arid, dusty landscape? Well, the crew from Drive went for the McLaren 12C, which they believe is the best everyday supercar on the market.

Their journey started from the nation’s capital, Riyadh, with the final destination being Al Hada Road, a twisty mountain highway perfectly suited for the McLaren 12C.

The 2014 Porsche 911 Carrera S is in a Class Above its Rivals (VIDEO)

The perception surrounding Porsche and their infamous 911 has all changed over the years, from its unforgiving early days to its most recent reputation as a ‘tour de force’ in its respective class.

However, with all of the new rivals hot on its heals such as the 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray, Audi R8 V10 Plus and Nissan GT-R, is it still the first choice sports car? Can it compete with other great models that are further down the £90,000 price spectrum?

    2014 Porsche 911Carrera S

Matt Farah’s recent ‘Drive Review’ of the Porsche 911 Carrera S says it all. He had the privilege of testing the luxury model recently, when he drove the very yellow Porsche around the famous Chuckwalla Valley Raceway, in California. Boy, he had been missing out, as this car blew him away.

Watch the Matt Farah high praise review below:

The 911 demonstrated amazing grip, steering feel and agility, and the acceleration was staggering. The exquisitely built 400 horsepower engine can do 0-60 in under three seconds. As Matt said, “you’re paying for the precision that you really don’t get anywhere else”.

As for the build quality, Matt hits the nail on the head, “it’s nicer than a three hundred thousand dollar supercar” both in the exterior build and a touch of class from the inside. Now that is exceptional praise indeed.

The Porsche is the ultimate dream. As Matt Farah claimed, “In the next two years I’m going to find a way to buy a Porsche because when you buy one everything else seems a bit sh**y”. If you’re lucky enough for that dream to become a reality, then you will require specialised insurance, to cover your pride and joy.  That’s where Express Insurance comes in handy – it will take care of all of your sportscar coverage needs.

But, what about it’s rivals? We look at three sports cars to see if they can give the Porsche a run for its money: the 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray, Audi R8 V10 Plus and the Nissan GT-R.

    2014 Corvette C7 Stingray

    Corvette C7

Price is a big standout for the Corvette. In fact, the recent ‘Chris Harris On Cars’ review put it in the same league as the Porsche 911, to prove money is not always the best indicator of what a car can do. The Corvette costs around £40,000, a big contrast to the 911 Carrera S’s hefty starting price of approximately £90,000, with an additional £40,000 worth of options! Yes, the options package costs the same as the Corvette. Crazy!

Performance wise, the C7 is exceptional and the only real let down is the “slow and cubersome automatic gearbox”, which means it lacks the overall incisiveness of a Porsche.

    Audi R8 V10 Plus

    Audi R8

Audi’s R8 has evolved and improved with the recent V10 plus, giving it the power to rival the Porsche. With its dynamic dual-clutch gearbox and revised styling, it’s the best it has ever been. The V10 plus has a great engine and is packed with character.

What it lacks is the Porsche’s razor-sharp edge, but it’s definitely a desirable sports car that will be at the top of anyone’s list.

    The Nissan GT-R

    Nissan GT-R

This model really is a technological marvel and its performance will give some of the world’s fastest supercars a run for their money. It comes with an impressive 543bhp 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6, giving it unmeasurable performance. On the looks front it sadly can’t compete with the Porsche – the exterior is clunky with lots of square lines and the bland looking interior leaves a lot to be desired.

All of these sports cars are clearly impressive, but the Porsche really does win the race as the ultimate exciting ride.

Top 10 Car Movies to Watch Before You Die

Screen Shot 2014-01-23 at 14.10.30Choosing the best 10 car movies to watch is no easy task, but the guys over at BigMotoringWorld have attempted to create a list, how much do you agree?

You may not agree, but even if you take away just one movie from this list, it has been a worthwhile venture. We are here to rejoice in that which is the one and only automobile.

If you are not happy with what we have to tell you, then venture to Big Motoring World Reviews & Complaint Resources, and try your luck there… You’re going to get the same answer. Our word is gospel, so take it like a man (or woman) and make your way through the 10 motoring movie commandments, in reverse order:

    10. Cars (2006)

It had to have a spot in the top ten, not just to please everyone, but it’s pretty
deep… for a kid’s movie. The hotshot race car named Lightning McQueen ends up in Radiator Springs, where he finds the true meaning of friendship and family. Awwww.

    9. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)

Based on a book written by Ian Fleming, and with a script written by Roald Dahl… How could this film possibly fail?

This is more than likely the most endearing caricature of a car… Ever! With Herbie coming in a close second place, of course. Haven’t we all dreamt of having our very own flying car?! A great movie, and we all like a bit of cheese every now and then, and Dick Van Dyke makes the movie!

    8.American Graffiti (1973)

A classic through and through, this spot was a fight between American Graffiti and Grease. The perfect storyline for a Sunday afternoon viewing, where a couple of high school grads spend one final night cruising “the strip” with their best buddies before they go off to college.

    7. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)

A great movie, with motoring movie madness at its core.
Ricky quickly soars to the top of NASCAR by achieving fame and fortune at Dennit Racing. Starring Will Ferrel and Sacha Baron Cohen, these are the perfect comedy match. There is rivalry, there are fast cars, there is a semi naked Ferrel… But don’t let that put you off!

    6. James Bond (1962-Present)

There is always room for Bond… James Bond. There is no particular film to be listed here; all of them deserve a good watch. This secret agent has been used in the longest continually running and the second-highest grossingfilm franchiseto date. These films are renowned for their technology, music, and of course their cars.

    5. The fast and the furious (2001)

One of the most popular motoring movies of the 21st Century, with numerous sequels, which have been hugely successful all over the world. Full of action, women and cars… What more could you want from a movie!

    4. Death Proof (2007)

Quentin Tarantino strikes again. This movie was part of a double feature and collaboration with Robert Rodriguez.  In this movie, two separate sets of women are stalked at different times by a scarred stuntman, who uses his “death proof” car to kill his victims. This is one not to miss; it is typical modern cult movie at its best.

    3. Drive (2011)

Who doesn’t like Ryan Gosling?! He is one of the major stars of today, and shines in this role. This film features some incredible cars, and even better scenes with them. The chase scene in this film is one of the best car scenes of this century.

    2. Christine (1983)

Stephen King novel, with an even better movie transformation. Every one wants a car like Christine… Or do they? You may want a stunner, but this car comes with a catch, when a nerdy boy buys this strange car with an evil mind of its own.
    Scary stuff.

    1. Bullitt (1968)

Dodge Charger, tough guy with leather gloves, accomplice with unyielding eyes Ford Mustang Fastback, and Steve McQueen at the wheel… Oh yes! This is the perfect and timeless car movie. Even if you don’t watch any of the other movies in this list, go out any buy this one. It never gets old, and you can’t go wrong with the king of cool, Steve McQueen.

There are so many more movies you really should see, not to mention ‘Back To The Future‘, Herbie in ‘The Love Bug’, ‘Transformers‘ and ‘Senna’  (wow, we should create another list!) but get started on this list and you can die a happy car lover.
