Mercedes F1 driver Lewis Hamilton buys LaFerrari

    LaFerrari

Mercedes F1 boss says his boy Lewis Hamilton has bought a $1.7 million Ferrari LaFerrari hybrid hypercar.

Reigning Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has an interesting collection of exotic cars in his garage. When he’s not behind the wheel of his winning Mercedes F1 machine, he gets around in a range of different personal cars including a Rolls Royce, classic Ford Mustang and a Pagani Zonda 760LH which was built specially for the British driver.

To celebrate his second world title in 2014, and his win at the 2015 F1 season opener in Melbourne Australia Lewis Hamilton ordered a Ferrari LaFerrari, says team boss Toto Wolff. Of course, Ferrari is one of Mercedes’ biggest on-track rivals in Formula 1 but at the moment Merc and its AMG performance division don’t build a supercar to rival the likes of LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918.

The LaFerrari is a limited edition mid-engine V12 hybrid monster which packs a total of 960hp and can hit 186mph (300km/h) in under 15 seconds making it one of the most accelerative production cars on the planet. It’s also one of the most expensive, worth around $1.7 million.

Unlike his world champion rivals Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso who have all been Ferrari F1 drivers, Hamilton is unlikely to be invited to drive the Ferrari hybrid hyper car around the maker’s Fiorano test track. With the quickest car on the grid and enough money to hire any track in the world, we doubt Hamilton will be worried about missing out on a go around Fiorano.

Red Bull Racing launches 2015 F1 racecar with camo livery

    2015 Redbull RB11 F1 race car

Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren were stood up at this week’s pre-season Jerez Formula 1 test as Red Bull unveiled a striking new test livery for their car.

It’s not often that Red Bull Racing let their hair down and do something a bit outlandish. Their livery has barely changed since the old Jaguar F1 team was taken over by the cashed-up energy drink company and is a strictly business affair with the typical Red Bull logos and a few others. However, at this week’s pre-season Formula 1 test in Jerez, the Red Bull RB11 racer rocked a dark black and white camouflage livery, which has since become the talk of the pit lane.

Originally intended to hide the car’s aerodynamic secrets from rival teams like Mercedes-AMG and Ferrari, the livery has wowed F1 fans with some calling for Red Bull to keep the wrap for the rest of the 2015 F1 season. However, that seems pretty unlikely given that you have to squint to recognise the sponsor logos.

Red Bull’s driver lineup for 2015 includes Aussie young gun Daniel Ricciardo, who was the only non-Mercedes driver to win races last year while his then teammate and four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel struggled. Vettel will drive a Ferrari this year, marking his first season away from Red Bull. Red Bull’s second driver is another young lad, Danny Kvyat from Russia.

Power issues plagued Red Bull last season as the Renault turbo V6 engine didn’t have the outright grunt of the Mercedes engines, however things should be different this season. Red Bull is now Renault’s soul engine customer, and this has allowed the car and engine designers to work more closely for better integration of chassis and power unit.

Reigning world champions Mercedes are tipped to be a dominant force once again this year, while McLaren and Ferrari have four world champion drivers in total and should be strong. More will be revealed once the lights go out in Melbourne next month, marking the start of the 2015 F1 season.

Daniel Ricciardo to star on Top Gear as F1 guest

    Daniel Ricciardo

Infiniti Red Bull Racing Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo will feature as a special guest on Top Gear next month.

Aussie Formula 1 ace, Daniel Ricciardo has confirmed that he will be a star in a reasonably priced car on Top Gear next month.

The Infiniti Red Bull Racing driver will be seeking to snatch the current lap record from 2014 F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton when he takes to Top Gear’s Suzuki Liana.

At a media event earlier this week he said, “It’s been a while since I’ve heard people say ‘When are you going to go on Top Gear?’ So the time has come…I believe Lewis has got the crown at the moment so it would be nice to take at least one title off him.”

Fellow Australian Mark Webber is second on the lapboard ahead of Ricciardo’s teammate from last year and four-time F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel.

It is believed Dan Ricciardo will makes his Top Gear debut in episode three of this season which will air on February 8.

David Guetta turns F1 racer in Dangerous video clip (VIDEO)

    Lotus F1 team

Lotus F1 team and Romain Grosjean team up with DJ David Guetta for new music video.

Music videos these days are becoming ridiculous quite frankly. Look up Anaconda by Niki Minaj – or don’t and save yourself three minutes of wondering how one’s bottom becomes so disproportionately large. There’s no real story line or meaning behind the video, it’s all about getting attention and for all the wrong reasons.

Anyway, we’ve got slightly off topic here. Because, French DJ David Guetta has a new music video out and it’s about F1 racing – or at least it seems to be, Lotus F1 driver Romain Grosjean drives his race car in it and everything! Predictably, teammate Pastor Maldonado does not feature in the clip, presumably he crashed his car in practice before filming begun.

Anyway, enough rambling, check out the video!

Watch Extreme Lawnmower Racing With Kimi Raikkonen (VIDEO)

Lawnmower racing must be tremendous fun (it certainly looks like it) because Kimi’s Finnish stone-face does break for just a second at the start of the post-race interview. There’s an actual smile there, however fleeting.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJRomcjprwY

The race, filmed just ahead of last weekend’s British Grand Prix, saw Kimi face off against Martin Brundle, Johnny Herbert, and Anthony Davidson in a mower battle royale. You already know the outcome, but you’re going to watch anyway.

20 Years After His Death, The World Remembers Legend Ayrton Senna

    Ayrton Senna 20 years

Though he only lived to the age of 34, Ayrton Senna da Silva is widely regarded by past and present racers the world around to be one of, if not the all-time, greatest to have taken a wheel in anger. It was 20 years ago today that the Brazilian, with threeFormula One world championships, 41 wins and 80 podium finishes under his belt, died in a crash at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix in Italy while driving for Williams. It was on lap seven of the race at the high-speed Tamburello corner where Senna’s car left the track and hit a concrete barrier at a speed in excess of 140 mph.

MUST SEE: Watch Senna Catch Prost In The Rain at Monaco, Announced By James Hunt: Video

For those fortunate enough to have known Senna intimately, many were able to recognize that he was not like other drivers. He had a belief in himself and a drive to win that belied his shy and somewhat humble nature  off the track.

    Ayrton Senna legend

Behind the wheel he had an intensity that brought about some great rivalries. His bouts with Alain Prost, of course were paramount among them but the Brazilian battled Nigel Mansell and others in the F1 fraternity. He also fought Jean-Marie Balestre, head of the FIA, and whose French ancestry tended to find him on the side of Prost.

But when the race was over, Senna was much more than just a driver, especially to the people of his homeland. At a time when Brazil was in such turmoil, he seemed able to bridge the gap between rich and the immense number of poverty-stricken people in the countryside. He brought them together in his life and in his death.

The 1994 San Marino Grand Prix will forever be known as one of the saddest in F1, not only because of Senna’s death but also that of Austrian driver Roland Ratzenberger who crashed during qualifying one day prior. Whether it was due to the design of the cars, due to mechanical failures or due to human error, we will probably never know. But what we do know is that the tragic events of that fateful race helped change the development of the sport, particularly with regard to safety. Since then, no driver has been killed during an F1 race weekend.

BREAKING NEWS: Doctors ‘abandon efforts to bring Michael Schumacher out of coma’

    Michael-Schumacher-coma

Doctors treating stricken F1 motor racing legend Michael Schumacher have abandoned their attempts to bring him out of his artificial coma following setbacks, it is reported today.

Germany’s news magazine Focus – which enjoys a close relationship with the 45-year-old inner circle – claims the slow waking-up process for the seven-times world champion was put on hold last week.

Schumacher has lain in an artificially induced coma since December 29 in the University Hospital of Grenoble in France after seriously injuring his head during a low-speed ski accident the same day.

Investigation: A court is still looking into the crash in Seville on November 17. Above, Schumacher skis in Italy

Doctors announced three weeks ago they were reducing the anaesthetic keeping him under to slowly bring him around.

Now, according to Focus, that has been halted because of ‘complications’ although just what those problems are has not been announced.

Official news about Schumacher’s condition is scant with the family preferring only to issue the briefest of bulletins every few weeks.

The latest claim will only add to the concerns of fans worldwide that the severity of his brain  trauma is causing experts concern every step of the way on his torturous road  to recovery.

Focus said that, for now, the recovery phase is back on ice and Schumacher is  once again medicated to keep him under.

The process was initiated because his  brain injury was so severe doctors needed to suppress its normal functions to  allow it to operate at low-speed and, hopefully, recover more quickly.

Friends: It comes as Felipe Massa has claimed he saw Michael Schumacher’s mouth move as he spoke to him
Optimism: Massa says he told 'sleeping' Schumacher all about his car and prospects for the coming season

Only last week, ex-colleague Felipe Massa had visited Schumi in hospital and spoken to him.

‘He sleeps looks but quite normal,’ he said. ‘I think he even reacted a bit.’

Doctors may have decided to break off his awakening for a variety of reasons, including reduced blood flow, a new infection or signals that the drugs lying in the fatty tissue of his body were not shifting as fast as they would have hoped.

Just a fortnight ago he contracted, and fought off, a bout of mild pneumonia  contracted through the breathing tubes keeping him alive.

Now with the latest  news the fear is that his hopes of making a complete recovery are dimmer than  ever.

His wife Corinna, 44, and teenaged children Gina-Marie and son Mick are constantly at his bedside, talking to him throughout the day when he is massaged, turned and cleaned while hooked up to a bank of machines keeping him alive.

Michael Schumacher's Manager Refuses To Comment On Pneumonia Reports (NEWS)

Rumors have once again be circulating around Michael Schumacher’s health as reports claim that he has contracted a lung infection. This comes just a week after rumors that said he had actually died.

The F1 Legend is approaching his 50th day in a medically induced coma and although we had confirmation that doctors are attempting to bring him out of the coma, the rest of the information we are getting is simply speculation.

Once again, Schumacher’s manager has refused to comment on these most recent reports in his native Germany.

“We are not commenting on speculation,” Schumacher’s manager and spokesperson Sabine Kehm told the newspaper.

Since news of the severity of Schumacher’s condition first broke, Kehm has repeatedly pleaded with fans of the F1 legend to ignore all speculation on the 45-year-old’s health.

Alien Spaceship? No It’s A Piece Of A Red Bull F1 Car

What you see here is the exhaust manifold from David Coulthard’s RB2 that competed in the 2006 F1 season. What used to be a just a very light piece of a racing car becomes a piece of art on its own.

The exhaust manifolds are part of Racing Gold’s “PART of the team” collection, where in collaboration with Red Bull, they turn race-used F1 parts into manufactured art for anybody to purchase.

Photographer Richard Pardon used LEDs on the chromed RB2 manifold to create a sort of futuristic ‘blueprint’ effect and sparklers/fountain candles to try and re-create what it would look like as if you could see it running.

Michael Schumacher Is Not Responding To Stimuli As Attempts To Bring Him Out Of Coma Fail

If you haven’t been worrying about the fate of Michael Schumacher, perhaps now is the time to start. Doctors have spent the past two weeks attempting to bring the seven-time Formula One World Champion out of the coma he’s been in since a December 29 skiing accident, but attempts to elicit responses to “deliberate stimuli” have been absent. Rather, Schumacher has only displayed reflex twitches.

The report comes from Germany’s Bild-Zeitung, which was picked up by Fox Sports, so we’d like to stress that this is not an official update. Schumacher’s medical and PR teams have been quiet since the initial announcement that doctors would begin easing the German’s sedative levels.

According to the German publication, Schumacher’s wife, Corinna, continues to spend her days at the driver’s bedside, talking to him. Patients in Schumi’s condition have been known to show improvements when being exposed to a continuous, familiar voice. As explained in previous posts, patients that remain in induced comas for too long may never wake up, or if they do, suffer from mental deficits and personality changes.

When Bob Lutz Put A Lambo V12 In A McLaren For Senna To Play With

The McLaren MP4/8B was powered by a Lamborghini V12 and driven by Ayrton Senna in September, 1993 at Estoril after the Portuguese Grand Prix. It was faster, and he wanted to race it in Japan. That never happened.

At some point earlier in 1993, Bob “Maximum” Lutz and Ron Dennis shook hands. Lutz was Chrysler’s chief executive and Lamborghini was part of their portfolio since 1987. And while they already supplied the ‘Lamborghini 3512? V12 to the Larrousse F1 team, he wanted to win races with it. He needed a top team for that, and Ron Dennis happened to have one.

When Bob Lutz Put A Lambo V12 In A McLaren For Senna To Play WithS

McLaren modified the MP4/8 mid-season in order for the bigger V12 (badged Chrysler for the tests) to fit instead of the Ford V8. It took them three month, but on the 20th of September, the MP4/8B hit Silverstone behind closed doors with Senna in the cockpit.

He suggested to engine builder Mauro Forghieri that it would be better with a less brutal top end and a much fatter mid-range. The changes were made, and the V12 ended up having around 750 horsepower, still almost 70 more than the Cosworth Fords. It also proved more stable and easier on tires than the regular MP4/8.

Mikka Häkkinen tested the car at Silverstone as well, and was a full second faster in it than with the Ford. So despite the Lamborghini engine’s poor reliability record, Senna wanted to race it in Japan. He was desperate for more speed on his quest to beat Alan Prost. But Ron Dennis said no, a day after Prost announced his retirement. Chrysler wasn’t impressed with his decision either:

We are disappointed to say the least. We have worked very hard in the last few months, including a very intense period recently putting together a team to interface with McLaren and TAG Electronics. The car was very quick and Ayrton Senna said some encouraging things about it. There was a strong agreement to proceed together for the future. The decision may say something about F1. It’s no secret that the marque must look at its costs, and we wanted to introduce our lean and efficient approach to it.

Senna went on to win the two last races of the season with the Cosworth V8s (pictured below). The following year, he left McLaren to replace Prost at Williams. You know how that ended.

When Bob Lutz Put A Lambo V12 In A McLaren For Senna To Play With

For 1994, McLaren chose a Peugeot V10 over Lamborghini, creating the MP4/9, which scored no wins or poles and had an engine that liked to explode. Chrysler left F1 and sold Lamborghini to a bunch of Indonesians blaming poor Diablo sales in the US.

McLaren switched to Mercedes power in 1995, and three years later, Mikka Häkkinen scored his first championship with them. Audi also introduced their latest car, a Lamborghini Diablo with fixed headlights…

Meet the man who spent everything to build his own racetrack (VIDEO)

Bucket lists are funny things, if only because they are so incredibly unique. A history buff might have a visit to Omaha Beach on their bucket list, while a music enthusiast might be angling for a trip to Graceland or a ticket to a Paul McCartney concert before they die.

Sports fans might want to attend a Super Bowl or the World Series or the Stanley Cup finals. For the auto enthusiast, though, the uniquely expensive nature of the objects of our passion – cars – makes our bucket lists considerably more visceral.

The idea of creating your own personal racetrack, though, is big – even for the most extravagant automotive bucket list. But that’s just what Richard Usher has done with Blyton Park, a British racetrack at the former RAF Blyton airbase. Blyton itself has been around since 1942, but racing started just a few years back, in 2011.

Red Bull Unveil The RB10 – Will It Take Them To A Fifth Straight F1 Title? (VIDEO)

Infiniti Red Bull Racing, the last of the top teams to reveal its new race car for the 2014 Formula One World Championship, has finally pulled off the covers. The car is the RB10, aptly named since it’s Red Bull’s 10th season in F1, and it’s the one Sebastian Vettel will be hoping to win his fifth title in. Joining him will be former Toro Rosso driver Daniel Ricciardo, who replaces his Australian compatriot Mark Webber this season.

Red Bull Racing’s RB10 2014 Formula One car

In line with the new aerodynamic regulations, the RB10 sports a nose design not seen on previous cars from Red Bull. It’s also very different to any design we’ve seen from other teams. Other standout elements of the RB10 include the new side pods and multi-tiered front wings.

Peak output of about 750 horsepower will come once again from a Renault power unit, which like competitor designs features a turbocharged 1.6-liter V-6 engine paired with an Energy Recovery System. The ERS provides an electric boost to the engine and consists of not one but two electric motor-generators: one either helping drive the car or topping up the batteries, and the second either helping spool up the turbo or also topping up the batteries.

Red Bull Racing’s RB10 2014 Formula One car

Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo took the RB10 for its first public outing at official F1 testing in Jerez, Spain today. Vettel is aiming for his fifth consecutive Drivers’ title while his Red Bull team is aiming for its fifth consecutive Constructors’ title. The first race of the new season will be the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne in mid-March.

Red Bull remains based in Milton Keynes, England and is run by Christian Horner who serves as team principal. Chief technical officer is Adrian Newey.

Scuderia Toro Rosso’s New F1 Car Is Hung Like A Horse (PHOTOS)

Scuderia Toro Rosso's New F1 Car Is Hung Like A Horse

Ok, let’s get this out of the way. The Scuderia Toro Rosso STR9 makes a Clydesdale look like a polo pony. In the genitals department. Because of the nose. Penis.

F1?s new regulations have had a transformative effect on the noses of the freshly turbocharged 2014 cars. Wide and tall has been replaced by low and narrow. While the interpretations from a few of the teams thus far have left the sexual organ references more to the imagination, Toro Rosso has let it all flamboyantly hang out.

Scuderia Toro Rosso's New F1 Car Is Hung Like A Horse

The Toro Rosso’s nose isn’t the only thing new, as Toro Rosso says they started designing this car longer before the season than any other car they’ve built before. It also has Renault power for the first time, as the Italian-based team has circumcised its relationship with Ferrari.

Scuderia Toro Rosso's New F1 Car Is Hung Like A Horse

The STR9 and its gigantic Rhino-sized penis will hit the track at Jerez for the first F1 test of the year this week.

McLaren Reveals Its 2014 Formula One Car (VIDEO)

McLaren has revealed its race car for the 2014 Formula One World Championship, the MP4-29. This is the car that Jenson Button and newcomer Kevin Magnussen will be driving, and the one the team at Woking hope will eradicate memories of last season’s poor performance.

    mclarens-mp4-29-2014-formula-one-car_100454215_l

Like all teams in the new season, McLaren has had to face the challenge of integrating an entirely new type of powertrain. That powertrain consists of a turbocharged 1.6-liter V-6 engine paired with an advanced Energy Recovery System (ERS). An eight-speed gearbox is used, but teams have just one set of eight ratios for the whole season, meaning the same ratios for every race track.

The engine has a rev limit of 15,000 rpm and delivers a peak output of about 600 horsepower. The ERS delivers an additional 120 kilowatts (161 horsepower) when required. It consists of two electric motor-generators: one either helping drive the car or topping up the batteries, and the second either helping spool up the turbo or also topping up the batteries.

    mclarens-mp4-29-2014-formula-one-car_100454217_l

Engine usage is even more tightly regulated in 2014: drivers may now only use five complete units per season–with heavy grid penalties for premature changes to both the V-6 and its key ancillaries–and the amount of fuel allowed per race is also limited–100 kg/hour and a maximum load of 100kg.

McLaren once again is sourcing its powertrain from Mercedes-Benz. However, next year it switches to Honda.

While the changes to the power-unit have attracted the headlines this year, there’s a myriad of small but complementary changes to the chassis, too. This year, the front wings are narrowed by 150 millimeters, which makes them less susceptible to damage, but creates new issues for the aerodynamics. At the rear, and in tandem with limited exhaust diffusers, the traditional lower beam-wing has been outlawed and the main-flap made shallower, making downforce harder to achieve.

Testing for F1’s 2014 season gets underway in Jerez, Spain on January 28. The first race of the new season is the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 16.

The Funniest and Silliest Car Quotes of 2013

It’s difficult being a celebrity, even if you’re a celebrity involved in the automotive industry. Everyone’s listening to what you’re saying but not because they’re interested. No, they’re just waiting for your next slip up so that they can turn it into a meme and ‘tweet’ it on. I’m no different, I will admit, and here are the automotive quotes that amused/annoyed me in 2013.

    1. Jeremy’s Basil Stunt

    clarkson tweet

When I say ‘Basil Fawlty’, ‘red Austin Countryman’ and ‘a twig’ you shouldn’t really have any doubts as to what I’m talking about. Jeremy Clarkson has used the classic scene from Fawlty Towers to lash back at his opponents on Twitter:

“Oh no. I’ve just heard that the scene when Basil Fawlty beat his car with twigs was FAKED. It hadn’t broken down at all.”

This came as a response to Michael Bott’s (an actor whom nobody knows) attempt at outing Top Gear as fakers. They apparently staged a scene on the River Avon as they came in a homemade hovercraft past a group of diners enjoying a riparian picnic. It appears that the diners (who ended up totally wet in the process) were actors. In this case, BBC decided to back the naughty trio by reminding the critics that “Top Gear is an entertainment programme.”

    2. James is Slow – That’s Official

    Clarkson & May

I just had to include another one by Clarkson because his quotes, unlike the moronisms that come out of some CEOs’ cakeholes, are actually funny. What is especially funny is the grief he’s giving James May about the latter being too slow. He’s picked up on the fact on more than one occasion and here’s two that are bound to make you chuckle:

“It took less time to invent that car than it did for him to go around the track” (on James May doing a lap in Bugatti Veyron).

“Tonight, James goes fast for the first time in his life” (5 mph).

There are other resources collecting Clarksonisms if you want to pick up a pub gag or two.

    3. Akerson Apparently Talks Himself into an Early Retirement

    ceo-akerson

Ever since the bolshie telecoms man Dan Akerson was made a CEO of General Motors, it has seemed that his favourite pastime is trying to tarnish his own and GM’s image. Most of the times he talks as if he had no clue what he’s talking about; and his dissing of competitors is both annoying and pathetic. One of his most famous quotes is:

“They are trying like hell to resurrect Lincoln. Well, I might as well tell you, you might as well sprinkle holy water. It’s over.”

That’s what he said about Ford’s luxury division back in 2011. Now we all know that his prediction was untrue. Lincoln is going from strength to strength despite the fact that their new grille design is atrocious.

Akerson’s latest quote came as part of a sneak-peek into the development of what’s supposed to be the 2nd generation of Chevy Volt. He was quoted to say:

“We want it to be a moon shot so we can surprise the competition!”

as he made comment on the predicted driving range of the new vehicle. He said it would be a compact car capable of 200 miles on a single charge and indicated that this would be possible because of the agreement with a battery startup Envia Systems who’d promised to deliver a battery based on the latest technologic breakthroughs. As it turned out, this was a massive gaffe because the quote was made after GM had begun a cancellation process of its contract with Envia Systems citing “material misrepresentation”. The chaps behind the superbattery – Dr. Purnesh Seegopaul and Dr. Sujeet Kumar (don’t forget the “doctor” bit when addressing them) are now facing two lawsuits – for misrepresentation and for stealing intellectual property.

    4. What Happened Between the Two Carloses?

    carlos-tavares-and-zoe

The Chief Operations Officer of Renault Carlos Tavares made a bad mistake when interviewed by Bloomberg. He alluded that he’d like to see the CEO of Renault Carlos Ghosn retire so that he can take Ghosn’s place. Tavares was quoted to say:

“We have a big leader and he is here to stay. Anyone who is passionate about the auto industry comes to a conclusion that there is a point where you have the energy and appetite for a No. 1 position.”

No surprise that shortly after the interview, Mr Ghosn summoned an emergency meeting, even attended by French government officials. The Socialist French Government who owns 15% of Renault is always very touchy when it emerges somebody within the company is rocking the boat. It was an unanimous decision that Tavares has to go after more than 30 years with Renault. What is Tavares going to do now? Ghosn though he’d dispatched of the rebel and had had the upper hand, however, it was announced that Tavares had been appointed a CEO of Ghosn’s fiercest competitor – Peugeot Citroen PSA. Who’s got the last laugh now?

    5. Why Clicking Fingers Has Never Solved Traffic Problems

    Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin

Our current Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin knows the drill when it comes to dishing out funny quotes. If calling the new high-speed railway network an “essential heart bypass for Britain’s clogged train network” is not figurative enough for you, here’s what he said about the UK transport problems in general:

“We need better roads too, to keep cars, trucks and buses moving…” (thanks for stating the obvious) “…you can’t just click your fingers to solve it [transport problems]. You need to think big and hold your nerve for decades.”

    6. Embrace Your Bodies for the Ecclestones

    Tamara-Ecclestone

Some of the best quotes of 2013 have come from the Ecclestone family. It was certainly important news when one of the ‘heiresses’ – Tamara Ecclestone announced she’d do Playboy. Those who were brave enough to buy the said issue of the magazine were slightly disappointed because Tamara was covered in some weird white stuff. Not a proper nude picture if you ask me. When questioned about the moral aspects of posing for Playboy she said:

“I am so proud of this beautiful shoot. As a woman, I believe you have to embrace your body, and feel beautiful both inside and out.”

But we’ll finish with one of Bernie’s latest quotes. As you might have heard, he’s facing bribery charges. Here’s what he said regarding the prospects of spending next 10 years of his life in a cosy German prison cell:

“If I get sent to jail I will have to deal with it. But I don’t think I will like it very much.”

    Nobody could’ve said it better!

These iPhone Speakers Are Made From Supercar Exhausts
When it comes to sound docks, it’s all about quality. After that, it’s about how it looks. Sound docks, in my opinion, serve as not only essential gadgets but pieces of furniture.

The only thing better than a stylish sound dock is this Ferrari exhaust pipe that doubles as one. iXoost, an Italy-based company, is responsible for the unique design behind the Ferrari exhaust pipe sound dock.

“iXoost also offers its own music playing app, designed to complement the speaker system. With Coordinated graphics and technical HQs, the app matches the custom design of each recycled exhaust.” – Car Buzz

The pipes are taken from original classics such as F1 racing classics like  the 1978 Cosworth DFV, 2006 Renault RS26, 2007 Ferrari 056 and more. The docking stations are being offered in either eight speakers, 10 speakers or 12 speakers.

Looking to add a new piece of furniture to you entertainment system setup? Prepare to put down about $6,900 for iXoost’s latest creation.

Check out additional photos of the Ferrari exhaust pipe sound dock from iXoost below.

Michael Schumacher Latest: Fans Hold Silent Vigil Outside Hospital For His 45th Birthday (VIDEO)

Michael Schumacher remains in a stable but critical condition following his skiing accident and no further update on his condition is expected on Friday as the German spends his 45th birthday in a coma.

His family were briefed by doctors at Grenoble’s University Hospital in the morning, but had stated earlier in the week that they would only be making further announcements if there was substantial news to report.

The seven-time World Champion is in intensive care after he hit his head on a rock and was airlifted off Meribel’s slopes on Sunday. (See accident route below)

The last official update came from his manager and spokesperson, Sabine Kehm, on New Year’s Day.

“We understand that the situation is essentially the same as it has been in the last couple of days so we are now looking at 80 plus hours of Michael Schumacher in a stable condition and although he hasn’t improved, that is a platform at least for his doctors to continue to treat him,” reported Sky Sports News’ Craig Slater.

Schumacher won five successive titles with Ferrari between 2000 and 2004 and the Scuderia are helping to mark his birthday by asking fans to dress in red and take part in “a silent and respectful event” outside the hospital.

“Ferrari have arranged for fans from their supporters clubs in Northern Italy and Southern France to come to Grenoble and they are going to hold a silent parade a little bit later on,” Slater added.

“There are over 100 fans here already, all dressed in red and Ferrari have been keen to stress this is an important day for the team as it is Schumacher’s birthday.”

A message on Ferrari’s website read: “At the moment, he is tackling the most important fight of his life and therefore we want to send him very special wishes.”

Sebastian Vettel Turns To Stand Up Comedy With Humorous Autosport Awards Acceptance Speech (VIDEO)

2013 Formula One driver’s champion, Sebastian Vettel, scooped up the Autosport Awards International driver of the year title for the fourth time this past weekend and gave a hilarious acceptance speech!

In his candid and humorous acceptance speech Vettel not only mentions his concerns over the change to V6 engines for the forthcoming season, but also covers the “stupid” rules regarding celebratory doughnuts and goes so far as to impersonate Red Bull F1 team advisor, Melmut Makro. He even talks about his huge testicles at one point! Great to see a high profile athlete with such a relaxed and funny personality in front of the cameras. What a guy…

Is This The Sound Of Ferrari’s 2014 V6 F1 Engine? (VIDEO)

Is This The Sound Of Ferrari’s 2014 V6 F1 Engine? (VIDEO)

LaFerrari test mule gets spied at Fiorano running Ferrari’s 2014 V6 turbo F1 engine. It sounds biblical.

A Ferrari LaFerrari test mule has been spied roaming around Fiorano, and it’s got the neighbors kicking up a bit of a stink. Probably. Y’see, this is no ordinary V12 LaFerrari road car that has to meet strict noise pollution requirements. Oh no, this sweet concoction has what we can assume is Ferrari’s 2014 F1 engine at its heart.

How can we tell? Well, it’s bloody loud, it definitely isn’t a V8, there are turbocharger whistles going off all over the place, and that roof scoop looks like the central air intake that all F1 cars have. Before you get too excited we should point out that this is probably a one-off car built purely to test the new engine. You won’t be seeing anything like this on the road. Ever.

Of course, the F1 rules change next year. The naturally aspirated 2.4liter V8s used for the past few years will be replaced by more fuel efficient 1.6liter turbocharged V6 engines. We reckon this V6 motor sounds wicked cool, especially towards the end of the video where the driver gives it the full beans… Take a look.
