Your favorite supercars drag race at VMAX 200 (VIDEO)

    VMAX 200

Porsche 918, LaFerrari, Koenigsegg One:1, and a load of other crazy supercars hit their top speeds drag racing at VMAX 200.

This weekend the VMAX 200 event was held in the U.K at an old airfield that’s often used to performance test quick cars. VMAX 200 is an event open to the public where drivers can push their cars to their limits racing down the runway against other drivers. The cars include Nissan GT-Rs, Audi R8s, McLarens, Lamborghinis LaFerrari and Ferrari 458, Porsche 918, Bugatti Veyron, Pagani Zondas and even a couple of Koenigseggs including the 1360hp One:1.

While the runway isn’t long enough for all cars to reach their absolute top speeds but most of the really quick ones were able to reach speeds in excess of 180mph. And the insane Koenigsegg One:1 managed over 220mph – still someway off its theoretical v-max of 270mph.

The video below gives you a behind the scenes look at the event from the perspective of Car Throttle founder and CEO Adnan Ebrahim. It even includes a passenger ride in the Porsche 918 Spyder and appearances from Youtube supercar celebrity Lord Aleem.

Lewis Hamilton takes delivery of McLaren P1 in Monaco (VIDEO)

    Lewis Hamilton McLaren P1

Lewis Hamilton has taken delivery of his brand new McLaren P1 supercar in Monaco just days after winning the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Current Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has treated himself to one of the world’s fastest and most exclusive supercars, the McLaren P1. Just 499 P1’s will ever be built, and this 903hp hybrid rocket ship can accelerate from 0-62mph in under three seconds and 0-184mph in around 16 seconds. This phenomenal performance comes curtesy of a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which is supplemented by a pair of electric motors to give a total of 903hp.

The P1 also features one of the most aggressive and advanced aerodynamic packages ever fitted to a production car, capable of delivering 600kg of downforce in Race mode. In Race mode the P1’s massive rear wing fully extends and the car lowers right down to the ground. In fact, the McLaren P1 is so extreme in its Race mode that it’s actually illegal to use this setting on the road.

Thanks to its electric motors, the P1 can also be driven in silent emissions-free electric mode for around 6 miles. Even without the V8 engine in use, the P1 is just as fast as a Golf GTI or Fiesta ST – both decently fast cars.

Lewis Hamilton took delivery of his unique McLaren P1 in Monaco earlier this week, just days after winning the Bahrain Grand Prix. The car is finished in a unique electric blue colour with special blue pinstripes on the wheels and body. Mercedes F1 driver Lewis Hamilton can be seen collecting the McLaren P1 in the video below (he’s the guy wearing the blue clothes and hat).

McLaren P1 vs Nissan GT-R street race (VIDEO)

    McLaren P1 vs Nissan GT-R

When a McLaren P1 supercar pulls up alongside a Nissan GT-R at the lights the only reasonable thing to do is stage a little drag race.

The Nissan GT-R has long been one of the fastest accelerating performance cars in the world, capable of cracking 62mph in under three seconds. When it launched it was one of the few cars available to boldly claim a sub-three second sprint time, but with the arrival of the three hybrid hypercars from Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren the sub-three club has grown significantly.

The video below shows what happens when a 903hp McLaren P1 pulls up alongside a modified Nissan GT-R at the lights. This isn’t a proper drag race that’s truly representative of each car’s relative performance and neither cars used launch control. We also don’t know exactly how much power the GT-R is punching out or what specific modifications it’s running.

While the video isn’t completely representative, it is at least interesting to see what two seriously quick supercars can do to the average car with the throttle planted.

Check out the viral video below.

Note: the McLaren P1 didn’t appear to go full throttle until a second or so after the GT-R.

Red Bull Racing launches 2015 F1 racecar with camo livery

    2015 Redbull RB11 F1 race car

Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren were stood up at this week’s pre-season Jerez Formula 1 test as Red Bull unveiled a striking new test livery for their car.

It’s not often that Red Bull Racing let their hair down and do something a bit outlandish. Their livery has barely changed since the old Jaguar F1 team was taken over by the cashed-up energy drink company and is a strictly business affair with the typical Red Bull logos and a few others. However, at this week’s pre-season Formula 1 test in Jerez, the Red Bull RB11 racer rocked a dark black and white camouflage livery, which has since become the talk of the pit lane.

Originally intended to hide the car’s aerodynamic secrets from rival teams like Mercedes-AMG and Ferrari, the livery has wowed F1 fans with some calling for Red Bull to keep the wrap for the rest of the 2015 F1 season. However, that seems pretty unlikely given that you have to squint to recognise the sponsor logos.

Red Bull’s driver lineup for 2015 includes Aussie young gun Daniel Ricciardo, who was the only non-Mercedes driver to win races last year while his then teammate and four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel struggled. Vettel will drive a Ferrari this year, marking his first season away from Red Bull. Red Bull’s second driver is another young lad, Danny Kvyat from Russia.

Power issues plagued Red Bull last season as the Renault turbo V6 engine didn’t have the outright grunt of the Mercedes engines, however things should be different this season. Red Bull is now Renault’s soul engine customer, and this has allowed the car and engine designers to work more closely for better integration of chassis and power unit.

Reigning world champions Mercedes are tipped to be a dominant force once again this year, while McLaren and Ferrari have four world champion drivers in total and should be strong. More will be revealed once the lights go out in Melbourne next month, marking the start of the 2015 F1 season.

    New baby McLaren supercar rendered

    McLaren Sports Series render

Upcoming Porsche 911 and Audi R8-rivalling Sports Series McLaren supercar gets rendered.

McLaren will soon launch a new supercar to sit below the existing 650S and P1 models. The new model, which will be part of the ‘McLaren Sports Series’ range of vehicles, is less powerful than the 650hp 650S but more usable say McLaren and it will be a rival to Audi’s R8 and high performance variants of the Porsche 911.

Though the new McLaren supercar won’t be revealed for another few months, McLaren itself has revealed a string of teaser images, while spy photographers have snapped the car testing in Europe. Using this imagery, Marc Antar has electronically created what he believes will be the new baby McLaren and it looks pretty accurate, too.

    McLaren Sports Series teaser image

    McLaren Sports Series teaser image

The rear of the new model expected to be called 500S – a reference to the car’s 500hp power output -, will be inspired by both the P1 and 650S models with a rear-bumper and light assembly that is very reminiscent of the hybrid hypercar. Meanwhile the rear wheel arches and engine cover will be derived from the 650S, which the new model will share much of its mechanical make-up with.

However, the 500S is believed to use a longer engine cover to free up more space inside the cabin behind the occupants for luggage as the baby Mac will be positioned as a more everyday usable car. The new model will also feature a unique side-intake design similar to the P1.

The 500S will use a modified version of the 650S’ carbon fibre tub that is believed to feature narrower sills for easier entry and exit, while the car’s 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 will also be used – though detuned to around 500hp for this application. Coupe (pictured), spider and GT body styles are expected to be offered, along with more track-focused variants.

Old guy wants a Lamborghini supercar with cat badges (VIDEO)

    Lamborghini supercar prank

Old guy tries to get a good deal on a Lamborghini supercar by taking off all the unnecessary equipment in hilarious prank video.

You’re old, retired and looking for a new toy to cruise the streets in. Only problem is, modern supercars like Lamborghinis, Ferraris and McLarens all come with lots of stuff a pensioner doesn’t really need. Like a big powerful engine, special paint, chrome exhaust pipes and airbags…. If you got the dealer to remove all these useless items then the car would be more affordable, right?

Another problem with supercars is that they’ve all got showy badges that shout ‘midlife crisis’. And why would you want a badge with a prancing horse or raging bull on it, when the animal you really like is cats?

This prank video sees a guy acting as an old bloke – that’s maybe losing his marbles slightly – try to get a good deal on a Ferrari and Lamborghini supercar in the most unusual of ways….

When McLaren Owners Meet Up, They Mean Business (VIDEO)

When you own a McLaren F1, you enter a small club. Just 106 examples were produced, and all became immediate prized possessions the moment they left the Woking assembly line. If you own and drive a McLaren F1, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll come across another example while out tooling around your local back roads.

That isn’t the case, however, when the McLaren F1 Owners Club decides to hold a get together.

Over the course of a few days, a relatively larger number of McLaren F1 owners and their amazing machines hung out and celebrated their road going rockets. Portions of the event were captured by YouTube user Carlo DeLucis. This means there is video of the cars idling, parked, driving, and getting on the throttle. It’s the perfect mix of McLaren F1 car porn.

    Screen Shot 2014-06-03 at 16.55.28

We particularly love the shot on Day 2 (video below) with all cars lined up for photos. Also, we’re proud of these owners for not fearing the dirt roads they occasionally had to traverse. It may have been a puckering moment for a few, but it seems like everyone made the dusty portion of the trip just fine.

Not everyone could make the trip though, unfortunately. Remember that McLaren F1 we told you about that was in the violent accident? The owner and car were on their way to this gathering.

McLaren 650s Geneva Debut Next Month (PHOTOS)

A stunning looking car, the McLaren 650s seeks to establish McClaren as a force to be reckoned with, alongside other manufacturers such as Ferrari and Lamborghini.

McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt intends to triple sales within two years, and it seems the 650s is it’s first step in achieving this aim.

Driving Saudi Arabia – The Hidden Kingdom With A Gang Of McLaren 12C’s (VIDEO)

Saudi Arabia is the largest country in the Middle East, so the best way to cross it would be in a fast car. But what ride to choose for more than 2,000 kilometers (1,243 miles) of driving through arid, dusty landscape? Well, the crew from Drive went for the McLaren 12C, which they believe is the best everyday supercar on the market.

Their journey started from the nation’s capital, Riyadh, with the final destination being Al Hada Road, a twisty mountain highway perfectly suited for the McLaren 12C.

When Bob Lutz Put A Lambo V12 In A McLaren For Senna To Play With

The McLaren MP4/8B was powered by a Lamborghini V12 and driven by Ayrton Senna in September, 1993 at Estoril after the Portuguese Grand Prix. It was faster, and he wanted to race it in Japan. That never happened.

At some point earlier in 1993, Bob “Maximum” Lutz and Ron Dennis shook hands. Lutz was Chrysler’s chief executive and Lamborghini was part of their portfolio since 1987. And while they already supplied the ‘Lamborghini 3512? V12 to the Larrousse F1 team, he wanted to win races with it. He needed a top team for that, and Ron Dennis happened to have one.

When Bob Lutz Put A Lambo V12 In A McLaren For Senna To Play WithS

McLaren modified the MP4/8 mid-season in order for the bigger V12 (badged Chrysler for the tests) to fit instead of the Ford V8. It took them three month, but on the 20th of September, the MP4/8B hit Silverstone behind closed doors with Senna in the cockpit.

He suggested to engine builder Mauro Forghieri that it would be better with a less brutal top end and a much fatter mid-range. The changes were made, and the V12 ended up having around 750 horsepower, still almost 70 more than the Cosworth Fords. It also proved more stable and easier on tires than the regular MP4/8.

Mikka Häkkinen tested the car at Silverstone as well, and was a full second faster in it than with the Ford. So despite the Lamborghini engine’s poor reliability record, Senna wanted to race it in Japan. He was desperate for more speed on his quest to beat Alan Prost. But Ron Dennis said no, a day after Prost announced his retirement. Chrysler wasn’t impressed with his decision either:

We are disappointed to say the least. We have worked very hard in the last few months, including a very intense period recently putting together a team to interface with McLaren and TAG Electronics. The car was very quick and Ayrton Senna said some encouraging things about it. There was a strong agreement to proceed together for the future. The decision may say something about F1. It’s no secret that the marque must look at its costs, and we wanted to introduce our lean and efficient approach to it.

Senna went on to win the two last races of the season with the Cosworth V8s (pictured below). The following year, he left McLaren to replace Prost at Williams. You know how that ended.

When Bob Lutz Put A Lambo V12 In A McLaren For Senna To Play With

For 1994, McLaren chose a Peugeot V10 over Lamborghini, creating the MP4/9, which scored no wins or poles and had an engine that liked to explode. Chrysler left F1 and sold Lamborghini to a bunch of Indonesians blaming poor Diablo sales in the US.

McLaren switched to Mercedes power in 1995, and three years later, Mikka Häkkinen scored his first championship with them. Audi also introduced their latest car, a Lamborghini Diablo with fixed headlights…

McLaren’s Porsche 911 Rival Takes Shape Through Rumors

We’ve already established that the upcoming Porsche 911 rival from McLaren was going to be called the P13. The car that’s set to cost the equivalent of around £120,000 (€145,500 or $198,900), will come to the table with between 450 – 500 hp sent to the back through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

McLaren’s Porsche 911 Rival Takes Shape Through Rumors

However, since it’s the same 3.8-liter V8 unit that’s used in their other cars, more powerful variants will surely be offered.

British magazine Autocar reported that one of McLaren’s highest-ranking execs, Mike Flewitt, made a claim that the P13 would beat its rivals from Porsche and Ferrari in terms of tech, even though that was never the criticism addressed at for instance the 12C when it was put up against its Italian arch nemesis.

McLaren Reveals Its 2014 Formula One Car (VIDEO)

McLaren has revealed its race car for the 2014 Formula One World Championship, the MP4-29. This is the car that Jenson Button and newcomer Kevin Magnussen will be driving, and the one the team at Woking hope will eradicate memories of last season’s poor performance.

    mclarens-mp4-29-2014-formula-one-car_100454215_l

Like all teams in the new season, McLaren has had to face the challenge of integrating an entirely new type of powertrain. That powertrain consists of a turbocharged 1.6-liter V-6 engine paired with an advanced Energy Recovery System (ERS). An eight-speed gearbox is used, but teams have just one set of eight ratios for the whole season, meaning the same ratios for every race track.

The engine has a rev limit of 15,000 rpm and delivers a peak output of about 600 horsepower. The ERS delivers an additional 120 kilowatts (161 horsepower) when required. It consists of two electric motor-generators: one either helping drive the car or topping up the batteries, and the second either helping spool up the turbo or also topping up the batteries.

    mclarens-mp4-29-2014-formula-one-car_100454217_l

Engine usage is even more tightly regulated in 2014: drivers may now only use five complete units per season–with heavy grid penalties for premature changes to both the V-6 and its key ancillaries–and the amount of fuel allowed per race is also limited–100 kg/hour and a maximum load of 100kg.

McLaren once again is sourcing its powertrain from Mercedes-Benz. However, next year it switches to Honda.

While the changes to the power-unit have attracted the headlines this year, there’s a myriad of small but complementary changes to the chassis, too. This year, the front wings are narrowed by 150 millimeters, which makes them less susceptible to damage, but creates new issues for the aerodynamics. At the rear, and in tandem with limited exhaust diffusers, the traditional lower beam-wing has been outlawed and the main-flap made shallower, making downforce harder to achieve.

Testing for F1’s 2014 season gets underway in Jerez, Spain on January 28. The first race of the new season is the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 16.

McLaren’s 12C-Based Response to Ferrari 458 Speciale will Arrive this Year with 650HP

McLaren is preparing a souped-up version of its 12C coupe that will launch this year targeting the Ferrari 458 Speciale. According to preliminary information, the new car will be sold as a stand-alone model and will be positioned above the 12C in McLaren’s lineup.

A report from Autocar says the new model will deliver on-road performance that will exceed that of the Ferrari 458 Speciale. According to an unnamed source, the car will be based on the same carbon fiber Monocell as the 12C and will be powered by an uprated version of the same 3.8-liter V8 engine delivering around 650hp.The hot McLaren is expected to feature a very different style from the 12C and to be influenced from the P1 hypercar, particularly at the front end. Styling changes will focus mainly on aerodynamics. “The 12C is already incredible, but the P1 was designed as the ultimate car aerodynamically, and those lessons can help every car in the range,” the source mentioned.

The interior will also be upgraded compared to the MP4-12C and the car should be equipped with standard carbon-ceramic brakes and other performance-enhancing modifications.

The Ferrari 458 Speciale is powered by a 4.5-liter V8 engine producing 597hp (605PS) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque at 6,000 rpm. The car sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3 seconds, from zero to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 9.1 seconds, while top speed is 325 km/h (202 mph).

UK’s Fastest Police Car: Force Reveal McLaren MP4-12C Spider For Fighting Crime (PHOTOS)

There are many speed freaks out there with cars capable of escaping the police without difficulty, but now the UK police are fighting back with a 207 MPH McLaren 12C. Due to be unvieled at the Birmingham motor show this weekend, the car was supplied by local McLaren dealers and sales director David Tibbett said: ‘We are delighted to help the police and their work.

The car is far from practical on a day to day basis. In fact you wouldn’t even be able to arrest somebody in it because like most of these police supercars they require co-drivers. The police say it hopes it will close the gap between them and motorists.

TV star Angus Nairn of “Motorway Cops” says the vehicle will teach people about the danger of excess speed. Everyone who will see the McLaren wants to come and talk about it – it is an excellent way to get people to have a conversation with the police and not end up with a fixed penalty ticket.

Dubai Police Force Gains Another Supercar – A McLaren 12C

The Dubai Police Force has added a new supercar to its extensive fleet – the British McLaren 12c coupe.

There must be a whole lot of baddies in Dubai. Fast baddies. Because, the Dubai police force has one of the speediest car collections in the world. The list of cop cars includes a Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari FF, Mercedes SLS AMG, Bentley Continental GT, Mercedes G63 AMG, Chevrolet Camaro, a BMW M6, and even a super rare Aston Martin One-77.

But it seems this fleet of super fast cars isn’t quite enough to prevent Dubai law-breakers from doing bad. So, how do we fix this Senior Constable? Buy another supercar, obviously. The latest addition to the Dubai force is a 616hp McLaren 12C Coupe. It does 0-62mph in about 3.1 seconds and well over 200mph. Try and outrun it at your peril.

The trouble was that as I belted round, I’d been trying to deliver my pieces to camera, and I hadn’t managed to complete a single one without interrupting myself with a sudden, wide-eyed “******* hell”.

“This car,” I’d say, “has a 3.8-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 which produces… ******* hell.” Then later, through Eau Rouge: “The feel of the steering puts me in mind of the feel you get from a Ferrari 458. It feels light and yet… oh, ******* hell.”

McLarens Special Operations 12C Concept Car (PHOTOS)

The Mclaren P1 is arguably one of the finest cars on the planet, but that doesn’t stop Mclaren’s Special Operations team from coming up with special one-off concept cars demonstrating the level of personalisation that McLaren offers.

The MSO have today released images of the their latest concept supercar on Mclaren Automotive’s official facebook page. Here is what they had to say, and check out the incredible images below:

“McLaren Special Operations provides a bespoke engineering service to those wishing to make their McLaren even more distinctive.

The MSO 12C Concept is packed full of bespoke features including a revised bonnet, front wing louvres, rear wing vents, a unique Airbrake and a new roof featuring an integrated snorkel channelling air to the engine.

These revisions are all crafted in lightweight carbon fibre. Titanium wheel bolts, along with oil and water filler caps, shed further weight from the already light 12C.

The interior gains more carbon fibre upgrades in the form of body colour switch packs and bezels. These are complemented by a new carbon fibre instrument cluster with integrated shift lights.

The keen-eyed amongst you will also notice that the Light Weight Wheels have been diamond cut in a new design.

So, what would you have MSO produce?”
