Sebastian Vettel drives Ferrari FXX K supercar (VIDEO)

    2015 Ferrari FXX K

Four-time Formula 1 world champion and Ferrari driver, Sebastian Vettel, hits the track in Ferrari’s new track-only LaFerrari based FXX K racer.

One of the perks of being a Ferrari Formula 1 driver is the company car you get to drive around in. While driving for Infiniti Redbull racing between 2010 and 2014 where Vettel secured four world championship titles, he had a choice of Infiniti vehicles and flavoured energy drinks to take home of an evening, now though at Ferrari, the German driver can pick from a selection of the world’s best supercars.

The promotional work isn’t too bad either. At is old team Vettel had to give a smile while sipping from a can of Redbull that probably isn’t ideal for an F1 ace’s diet, and he was also Infiniti’s ‘director of performance’ – whatever that means. This year, however, the Ferrari execs have much simpler public relations plans for Vettel – hop in our fastest and most powerful track-day weapon and spank it around our Fiorano test track for a few laps, and smile for the camera if you wouldn’t mind…

The video below shows the four-time world champ getting stuck in behind the wheel of Ferrari’s ferocious 1036hp LaFerrari-based hybrid rocket ship. It’s a super-exclusive track-only machine that Ferrari won’t actually even let you bring home. It’s kept at Ferrari’s HQ, probably in a maximum security shed somewhere, and will be delivered to your desired racing circuit whenever you feel the urge to wreck some slick tyres and burn a few gallons of race fuel. This is Ferrari’s most mental creation to date.

    Check out the video.

Lamborghini Huracan crashes at 200mph (VIDEO)

    Lamborghini Huracan crash

Lamborghini Huracan supercar driver demonstrates why it’s not a good idea to do big speed on the public road in chilling viral crash video.

They say the only place where you can really safely stretch the legs of a high horsepower supercar is at a race track, drag strip or runway should you have the funds to hire an airport for the day… Yes, technically you could visit a country that doesn’t have speed limits on certain roads like Germany or Italy, but it’s still pretty sketchy doing over 200mph on a road shared with other cars, trucks and people. At 200mph the closing speed between you and a car that might want to pop out to the outside lane to overtake the dawdler doing 60mph is still a staggering 140mph. You’re almost covering 100 meters every second, the speed is incredible and most roads and drivers were not designed to deal with cars travelling at such a vast rate of knots.

The video below is proof that even in a fancy new Lamborghini Huracan supercar with all-wheel drive, a double-clutch gearbox and carbon fibre chassis that happily power past 200mph, things can and do go wrong. The chilling video below shows the moments before the bright green Lambo was turned into a pile of metallic mush as its pilot pushed the car up to 330km/h (205mph) on Hungary’s M7 highway. The video ends when the car seems to strike some quite severe bumps in the road which cause it to lose grip and collide with some metal before the video ends and the aftermath images commence.

Fortunately there were no fatalities in the accident, apart from the Huracan which was a total write off, though it’s believed the person filming from the passenger seat suffered serious injuries.

Lesson: stay safe out there. You can check out the full video below.

New Ford GT supercar startup and revs (VIDEO)

    New Ford GT supercar

Listen to the new Ford GT supercar startup and rev at the 2015 Detroit motor show.

Ford wowed crowds at the 2015 Detroit motor show when it unveiled its new Ford GT supercar – a mid-engine successor to the 2005 Ford GT and the GT40 Le Mans winning racecars from the late 1960s. The car features a carbon fibre intensive structure and seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox with rear wheel drive but perhaps most surprising is that the GT does not have a V8 engine. Instead, Ford is using the new halo supercar to leverage its Ecoboost engine technology, meaning the GT is fitted with a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, which develops over 600hp. A similar Ecoboost motor is fitted to the new F150 Raptor, which also made its public debut in Detroit this week.

Naturally, some people may be worried that the V6 engine won’t be able to match the character and sound of the supercharged V8 used by the old GT. But this video proves that while the new GT doesn’t sound like a bent eight, it does have it’s own unique sound that should still be appealing to enthusiasts. Not only does the turbo motor sound angry and obviously performance focused, there’s some brilliant turbo whirs and whistles to accompany the six-cylinder snarl.

Check out the video below to hear the Ford GT come to life and rev, curtesy of Youtuber Subaruwrxfan.

XBOX One Forza 6 announced – Ford GT the cover car (VIDEO)

    New Ford GT supercar

Xbox and Turn 10 Studios announce Forza 6 with the new Ford GT supercar the cover car.

While the stunning new Ford GT supercar was being unveiled at the 2015 Detroit motor show this week, Xbox quietly announced its new Forza 6 motorsport simulator title. And it’s that incredible mid-engine supercar that will be the cover star of the new game, which is tipped to arrive in stores towards the end of this year.

Other car details are scarce, but we do know that all of the Ford performance vehicles will be available, including the new GT350R Mustang track warrior and the all-terrain crushing F150 Raptor. Cars like the Focus ST and Fiesta ST are also expected with the upcoming Focus RS possibly being part of the game too.

Dan Greenawalt, creative director at Turn 10 Studios, said: “Just as Ford has pushed the boundaries of car technology in GT, Forza Motorsport 6 will embrace that spirit of innovation as our most technically advanced racing simulation to date, offering a fun and realistic automotive experience for both car lovers and gamers.”

More Forza 6 game details will become available at the E3 gaming convention in June.

New Honda NSX hybrid supercar revealed

    New Honda NSX

Production-ready new Honda NSX hybrid supercar revealed at the 2015 Detroit motor show.

Honda has taken the wraps off its reborn NSX supercar in Detroit overnight, revealing the car for the first time in its production form. Several concepts have preceded the final NSX, which previewed the supercar’s sheet metal and hybrid drivetrain.

    New Honda NSX

    New Honda NSX

The new NSX features a fuss-free design with sharp sporty lines and obvious mid-engine proportions. At the front the reborn model wears a large shield-type grille seen on recent Acura models (yes, they’re calling it an Acura for now), while the rest of the design is largely revolutionary and shares little in common with the original NSX or any other Honda vehicles.

    New Honda NSX

    New Honda NSX

The new NSX is formed around a aluminum and carbon fibre space-frame chassis which features a carbon floor for increased structural rigidity over an all-alloy design. This is similar to the Lamborghini Huracan’s setup which incorporates carbon fibre into the rear bulkhead and part of the floor.

Powered by a hybrid powertrain, the new Honda NSX uses a twin-turbo V6 engine mated to a brand new 9-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission which drives the rear wheels. Meanwhile two electric motors drive the front axle to give instantaneous torque and all-wheel drive traction. A third motor sits between the V6 petrol engine and the gearbox to act as a torque-filler and improves acceleration and gearshift speeds. An exact power figure hasn’t been given, though it’s expected to be around 500hp with the 0-62mph in the three-second range. Engineers that have been part of the reborn NSX project say they were targeting the Ferrari 458 in terms of outright speed and handling. The standard 570hp 458 Italia takes 3.4 seconds to reach 62mph.

    New Honda NSX

    New Honda NSX

Stopping power is supplied by carbon ceramic discs clamped by six-piston calipers at the front and four-piston units at the rear. The NSX features four different driving modes which include Quiet, Sport, Sport+ and Track. Quiet mode uses electric power only with the combustion engine switched off, here the car is effectively a front-drive all-electric vehicle, while Sport and Sport+ modes increase engine, transmission and chassis response for more aggressive performance. Finally track mode sees the new Honda NSX muster all the power and handling agility it can to deliver the ultimate driving experience. A launch control system is also fitted which primes the three electric motors and twin-turbo V6 for the ultimate acceleration times.

    New Honda NSX

    New Honda NSX

Inside the NSX feature’s a high-tech cabin with digital TFT instrument display and unique center console layout. While it’s no Ferrari or Lamborghini in terms of cabin design, it should give those Italian exotics run for their money in terms of speed and handling while costing a fraction of the price.

2016 Ford GT supercar revealed in Detroit

    New Ford GT supercar

Reborn Ford GT supercar revealed at the 2015 Detroit motor show, set to rival the Lamborghini Huracan, new turbo Ferrari 458 and McLaren 650S.

Ford has today revealed its rumored successor to the Ford GT supercar – a lightweight innovative mid-engine performance model that will compete with exotics from Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren.

    New Ford GT supercar

    New Ford GT supercar

The last Ford GT was powered by a big thirsty supercharged V8, but in a move that may worry purists the new model will not feature an eight cylinder engine. Instead it will use a more fuel efficient 3.5-litre Ecoboost twin-turbo V6 that produces over 600hp. The new model sticks to its predecessor’s rear-wheel drive layout, however a manual gearbox will not be available instead a seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle unit is used.

To reduce weight and improve structural rigidity, the new Ford GT uses a carbon fibre passenger cell similar to that used in McLaren’s road cars and the Lamborghini Aventador. Aluminum front and rear subframes support the GT’s lightweight ethos, and Ford claims its Ferrari-fighter will have one of the best power to weight ratios in the business. Performance and weight figures haven’t been specified but low threes to 62mph and over 200mph top speed are expected.

    New Ford GT supercar

Inspired by modern fighter jets and the original Le Mans winning GT40 racecars of the late ‘60s, the new GT has been designed to give maximum high-speed stability and minimal drag. The car’s teardrop shaped passenger compartment and engine cover also give a stylish but functional aesthetic that exaggerates the width of the car creating a dramatic design. A number of active aerodynamic systems including a rear wing which automatically raises, lowers and adjusts its angle also help to increase down force without compromising high-speed drag.

Indoors the GT feature’s a high-tech interior with F1-style steering wheel housing many buttons and switches. There’s a simplicity and slightly retro flare to the overall interior design which the new GT has in common with its predecessor.

The Ford GT supercar is expected to go on sale in 2016 and will only be available in left-hand drive.

Jon Olsson’s Supercar Drifting Up Snow Slopes – Is This Crazy? (VIDEO)

As part of his Gumball 3000 Miami to Ibiza rally in June 2014, Jon Olsson has taken to the slopes in his road-legal race car. And the results are stupendous.

The R2K Rebellion was designed with Leif Tufvesson of Sweden, and weights in at 1000kg, wielding 600hp. It was fitted with studded tires for the occasion, and features a mid-mounted Corvette V8 in a Ultima GT-R chassis.

This is a change of tactics for Swedish free-skier Jon Olsson, but it is not a change of terrain. Drifting uphill in snow has never looked so fun. And it also sounds incredibly.

Take a look at some of these stunning shots below, and don’t forget to check the video out at the bottom!

The Second Lamborghini Veneno Is Now In Florida (VIDEO)

That first production Lamborghini Veneno has landed in South Beach, Florida, and the even better news is that you’ll be able to see it out there on the roads. That’s a promise.

Remember Kris Singh? He’s one of the two Americans who paid $4,106,000 for one-third of the Veneno population without seeing the car. All he could choose was the trim color from the options provided by the Italian tricolor, and he went with green.

Since I had the pleasure of meeting him, I can tell you that Kris is an extremely nice guy and more importantly a proper car nut, so when he says he’ll take his Veneno for a spin on the streets as often as he can, you can take it to the bank.

All you great people in Florida, please watch out for this one!

The Felino CB7 Is The Biggest, Baddest, Most Insane Canadian Supercar You’ve Never Heard About (VIDEO)

Canadian Felino CB7The Canadian built (Yes, they build cars!) Felino cB7 recently stole the show at the 2014 Montreal Auto Show. Sculptured from carbon fibre this looks like an sinister step-child of the Batmobile.

Watch the video of the cB7 lapping the circuit Gilles Villeneuve

    ca.autoblog.com have more on performance:

The cB7 has been in development for the past three years and is the culmination of a ton of R&D by its creator Antoine Bessette. Bessette is the CEO of Felino and a native Quebecois racecar driver. As much as we’d like to flood you with more information on what is shaping up to be Canada’s best homegrown supercar to date, we can’t. We can only speculate and can’t really fact-icate much of it for now.

    Canadian Felino CB7

What we do know from its previous spy video of it rocking donuts on the streets of Montreal is that the Felino is rear wheel drive and sounds like it’s rocking a turbo 4 cylinder of some sort under its shapely hood. With its estimated weight coming in at under 1,000 kilograms (or 2,200 lbs), we’re sure that Bessette picked the right powerplant to match.

    Canadian Felino CB7

There are rumours that the cB7 will be rocking a 500+ hp V8 in final form, but the spy video shot footage of it in action sure doesn’t sound much like a V8. We’re okay with that – hello, Lotus power-to-weight ratio. Bessette says that that the Felino will ship with a 6-speed manual transmission and will sport a near 50/50 weight distribution.

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento – $3.7m Hypercar Arrives In London (VIDEO)

Shmee150 managed to film the arrival of a rather special car in London, the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento.

Schmee150 explains: The Sesto Elemento (or 6th Element) was introduced at the 2010 Paris Motorshow as a track going weapon weighing in at just 999kg. It’s thought that a total of 20 could be built with a price tag in the €2 million region.

The car arrived here where it will be on show in the Lamborghini London dealership in South Kensington, London however it’s behind closed doors to the public so it was fantastic to not only see the car again in person but at home.

A lot of elements of the Sesto Elemento helped in the development of the new £3.1m Veneno.
